I'd love to see how they do that. Cause the riser is where the water has to leave the system and exit with the exhaust. They must plumb their risers with two hoses? Weird!

8.1 Crusader

Looks like they've got all kinds of hoses sprouting off of the exhaust system!!

BillyB,

Would you say that the riser in the picture is also cooled ??

What are the benefits for us that boat in fresh water to have the whole engine + exhaust system closed cooled ??

Did you look at the mercury marine and look at the 6.2 SeaCore or look at the 6.2 Horizon and see the exhaust system and the cooling on it ?

It's hard to say if the riser is included, but since it's got both that big hose in the front and then a little tiny hose near the top, I'd say yes, the riser is included in the closed cooling. And maybe just the "squarish part". Where the curve starts wouldn't have a water jacket and I think that little hose is praying a strong stream into the exhaust at that point.

The benefits to a "full" closed system (which I have never know to actually include the risers) is that the exhaust manifold don't get rusted out as fast, or at all.

In my opinion, if you have a closed cooled engine, it should include the exhaust manifolds. I know it's easier to not include them, but hey, "they went that far, they should go all the way!" And then as far as risers go, Mercruiser or VP should put stainless steel risers on all their closed cooled engines and they would corrode or rust out like iron ones would, even without closed cooling. My engine has stainless steel risers on it, straight from Mercruiser!

In the video on Mercruiser's website, the exhaust manifolds and the risers are NOT included in the closed cooling system on the Sea Core! Stupid stupid stupid! But the Risers are stainless steel.

The 8.1s exhaust system isn't closed cooled, but the 350 and 377 MAGs system is.

For the money, it would have been nice if Merc went the extra step like Crusader did for the cooling.

Not sue what would happen in a SeaCore engine with the CAT system ?
