I was just informed tonight by an AT&T Rep that the Lawrence area will be going 3G come December. Infact, he warned I may get some overload-static occasionally as they take down the towers one-by-one to install the new equipment, which can cause an overload on others during peak time. Hum! Thankfully I opted for the extra speed!

Hmmmm, seems to me that there is already a commercial 3G network that's up and running. no bothersome "overload-static" to have to contend with either. wink

I don't have an iPhone but was curious. I'm sure there are tons of websites with tips, but here is a simple clear one with a few...including the answer to what happens using Cobalt24sx's tip.

Nah - he's over screwing up the Missouri university system for a very handsome salary.

Still, the 3G network is humming along like a champ. At least there was the network in place to have supported the phone and didn't have to be built out after the fact.

Not disagreeing. I wish ATT was a CDMA network! I would have much better coverage in rural America.

A speedtest with the EDGE (2g) network returned 25-60 kbps. Oh how I do NOT miss the days of dialup. It almost can drive a normal person insane.

Buildings on main campus or in the lobbies of the university housing are wifi equipped. I thought it was amazing a small low-processing power phone can communicate up to about 4,000kbps (according to my speed tests). Read 2mb worth of Excel files this morning on the phone with Wifi in about 40 seconds including download time and rendering time. That's impressive.

Hopefully 3G will be in the 100-200kbps range.

It's a bummer the Instinct does not support Exchange calendar or have a browser that was worth the electrons it occupies.

Thanks for all of your help and input throughout this long process!
