I just got home after a really long weekend. My Dad had his left hip replaced last week. And the week before, his BIL had the plug pulled and they were on his death watch. And Sally was helping her sister with fending off the city's desire to find a way to shut her driveway RR crossing. My Dad gave us a scare Saturday when his blood sugars nose dived to 44 on Saturday and they couldn't get them under control. I took my new car in for its first service Monday, and they figured out that a minor annoying squeak was a strut bearing. Don't ask me, but they were going to replace it when the part came in today. Well Fedex lost the part, so I had to get a loaner car. Well, it has been hectic, but my Dad spent only the one night in ICU, and they let him out today. After a trip to Sonic and a run to the house for a shower, he is now in the rehab center. The therapist has told him is he healing well and will be out early next week. The city meeting tonight, went well for my SIL and they will see how much it will cost to put in a new road to her house. The loaner car the dealer gave me is a new Sable that is loaded with all the goodies. And my uncle who was dying........ He is two doors down from my Dad in the rehab center and is looking at getting out in a couple of weeks. He even goes to the dining room instead of eating in his room. A couple days after they took away all the meds he was on, he started getting better. Not bad for someone whose family was planning his funeral. It is said that as we get older, we get more easily amused. Too much amusement could kill us, that's why.

My SIL's house has a driveway that is 1/3 mile long. Only about half of it is on her property. Her place used to be two 10 acre pieces, but she bought the pasture next to her house. The only way to replace the road is to build a new road. That would be a 1/4 mile long. At the current rate of construction, they can expect a cost of $250-300,000 if they run into no problems. Not only that, but it has my BIL driving his truck down residential streets, and past a facility when the residents run around without supervision. For that money, they would be better off buying her property and having it available for a truck route that has always been desired.
I got back last yesterday from a trip to see my Dad. Yesterday morning was a thrill. My Dad calls at 0700 to tell me that he fell out of bed during the night. He was in a lot of pain and wanted to go get X-rays. Then he says don't hurry because he wanted to eat breakfast. I went over there and he was sitting in the dining room with my uncle and a friend. Things weren't going well for the facility. No one took their orders until 8:30. I had gotten some chairs with arms for my uncle and Dad from the other end of the table. This old gal comes in there and start ordering my uncle to give her back her chair. If she had asked nice......., but she started going on about how long she had been there and how much she pays to be there, etc. That got my Dad's hackles up and he started telling her off. The guys at the other tables were loving it. Don't think she had very many friends there. Finally, the administrator came over and calmed things down.
They served my Dad his breakfast, and he had it completely eaten and my uncle and their friend still had not been served. I went to check on it, and found they had lost the tickets. Then we had to explain to the day shift nurse why he was going to the hospital for x-rays when he refused to go in the middle of the night. Real fun times. His new hip was OK, but they found a very slight hairline crack on a rib, so he is going to be sore for a while. The good news is he goes home tomorrow and is getting around on a cane when he wants to.
So life is chaotic as usual. I am a bit bored, so I get to tell you guys all about the boring details.

Another day, another bit of fun. Last week, they gave me a nice loaner car while waiting on my part. A 2008 Sable, loaded with everything. I soon found out that I am happy without a 'moon'roof and that I like the navigation system, but not $2000 worth. Fustrating when the system tells you to go a route you know is not what you want to do. However, the touch screen with all the easy access data is nice. Also, the light interior colors made a real big difference in how big the interior felt.
Well, after I got my car back last Friday, the squeak was gone, but now there was an even bigger popping noise that started after I drove it awhile. So this morning, I got up and drove it two hours to get to the shop at 8:00. They pulled the strut, and one of the mounting studs broke off. The new bearing either had a defective stud, or the guy that installed it (not my assigned guy) used an impact instead of a torque wrench. So now they are ordering me a new bearing again. In the meantime, since last week, Ford has issued a TSB on that problem, so they are going to apply it to both front struts while they have it.
They were going to give tme the Sable again, but this time I asked for an Edge. It has some nice attributes. I like the cargo area and my dogs would love that. Not as much leg space as the Taurus, and the seat is a little tighter fit. It has a double moon roof and the cover is motorized. The mechanism looks like it is more complex than the Sable's and maybe more prone to failure over a lifetime. The navigation system is the same, but this car has Sync and I love it. I had wanted it with my Taurus, but since they were shutting the line down, I had to get the closest match and it did not include Sync. If you have not tried it, you ought to. The sound through the speakers is great, and when you talk, everyone is amazed because it does not sound like most speaker phones do. The sound at both ends is really clear.
I would love this chance to really test drive other cars and devices if it was not for the amount of gas and time off work it takes, but it is not all that bad. And I will occasionaly rent a car to get the same experience, so this is cheaper than that. Next time, I am going to try a Fusion. I found out today that my niece and nephew bought a Fusion from my dealer. It was due in this week, and when I went by to get my car charger, on my way back, they were there to pick it up.
