I'm having some issues with the trim sender on my DP-S drive. I've found two part #s, #3863007 which is about $50, or the newer replacement part # 3849411 for $120. My boat is still under the VP 2+4 extended warranty, so I would only be out a $25 deductible. I'm tempted to just order the first part number, as that $50 would be cheaper than paying the deductible and trailering the boat to the dealer 60 miles away. Is the new part number worth the extra cost? Has the part been redesigned?

Volvo does this all the time. It's your choice. Both will work.
As you can see here, there are many numbers that have been superceded by new ones.

Dang replaced 4 times already. Think the latest and greatest one will last longer and worth more?

Wow, Is there any possibility that something else is taking it out? Some tray current or something rubbing against it? I have no idea just throwing out ideas.

I should have reworded that. This is my first replacement, but it looks like VP has four different part numbers for that one sender....replaced/redesigned multiple times.

Any tips on the replacement? New one arrived today, install is slated for tomorrow. I assume just R&R, being careful not to pull the wires and loose some insulation.

Mine had the connection inside the boat, the wire ran through a grommet in the transom plate. I pulled mine through with a string attached, tied the string to the new one, and pulled it back through. I thought it worked well.

There's a retaining clip that clips on to the plug that goes through the transom. I dropped it, and couldn't find it. It's in there all the way, and it is pretty darn tight in there. Do I need to fab up or replace the retaining clip?

If you've changed your trim sender, did you put the retaining clip back in there?

Since I haven't done this yet, does the clip go on the inside of the boat to hold the plug in. Make me wonder how I would get to it when I do my trim sender change.

It does, you can't see it, but you can feel it. It slipped when I was putting it back on and is MIA at the moment.
