In July, we're heading to Virginia and North Carolina for about 10 days. CJSA's best friend lives in near DC, so we're going to spend 2 days in and around DC, and then the next 4 days in OBX. It'll be our first time on the east coast, and I wouldn't mind a fishing trip based out of Corolla, NC as long as it doesn't run me a grand or more (so far as I can tell, many offshore boats run this, and then some). Can anyone point out a charter boat in OBX, a microbrewery/brewpub (besides Dogfish Head) in DC and OBX, and good restaurants in DC, and in OBX?

CJS, do you know where in the DC area you will be staying? Considering traffic, you may want to look for restaurants within a reasonable commute.

We live west of the city, and there is a local brewery, Old Dominion Brewing Company, that has a pub attached.

We also have Sweetwater Tavern that is more food oriented, but with five microbrews on tap or to go.

There used to be a few Weeping Radish brewpubs on the OBX, but they closed down. I heard that the brewer moved operations to 10 miles north of the OBX on Hwy 158.

I got interested and checked into the new location for the Weeping Radish. Interesting concept for selling locally grown organic food and beers, so we might have to stop by and check it out the next time we head to the beach.

My BIL lives not far from OBX and has fished the coast many times. I will let you know what he says. He has since sold his boat so he can't take you personally. The OBX is not that wide so finding a good restaurant shouldn't be too hard since it is one main road going down the coast.

"He'll only be able to do inshore for that amount of money. Offshore
trips are $1600 + a 7% fuel surcharge + $200 tip for the mate."

I am still getting info from him.

CJSA's friend lives in Ashburn, and we'll be staying with her for the first 2 days. As luck would have it, Old Dominion is in that town! Thanks for the tip!

OnHoliday, It looks like Poacher is mostly booked for the week we're out there, 7/23-7/27. Thanks for running that info down for me!! Hopefully I'll be able to work something out.... Heck, maybe I can just get my fly rod together and fish the flats. I need a new reel, but that's way more affordable than an offshore boat!

Take a look at Oregon Inlet website for info on the fleet. This is a little south from Corolla.

Did you find any other fishing charters?
