Jim P,

That seems like a great price for a 240.

What other options does it have included? Is the ESP standard on the 05's? It was not on mine.

What type of trailer?

My local dealer orders the majority of his 240's with the 5.7 GXi. I was one of the few that upgraded to the 8.1

I test drove the 5.7 and it was pretty strong. I think Scotty makes some good points above. Biggest difference will probably be in torque.

Again, it depends what you want in your package. You should be fine with the deal, just make sure you don't have to add another 5K in options!!

Dawg,

It's pretty well equipped, bimini, tonneaus, docking lights, automatic fire extinguisher, dual batteries, transom stereo remote and the (useless) air compressor. There's no ESP on her right now, but dealer told me he'd throw one on (no charge).

Trailer is a good question, I have to see it. He sells two kinds, galvanized and aluminum. I'm guessing it's a decent galv, not too different from the one under my 200.

The only accessory I would probably order is the walkthrough carpetting.

I guess the other nice thing is that I won't have to winterize or store the 200 and I can probably get him to store the 240 for me for nothing, so that saves me a few bucks this winter too...

Dawg,

Just noticed you have a 240 yourself. Where is the compass? The brochure says it's standard, but don't see it in the pics.

Its on the IP next to the tach and the speedo.

That seems like a really good deal with all of the accessories. The ESP is like a $2K + option and he is going to throw it in!! Man, it just keeps getting better.

If it checks out, I would jump on it. Just make sure there is not something lying beneath the gell coat. You will love the boat and how it handles and rides.

It's brand new, not used or a demo, but I'll give it a good looking over.

Since all my meetings got cancelled today, I may take a ride over (prior to the test drive) and have a good look at 'er.

I heard a great piece of advice yesterday, and I think this applies to you Jim:

"Its only a bargain if you can afford it and you really need it."

Seems like you can afford it and I think you need it. A "bargain" it is, then.

The invoice for my services ($.02) is in the mail. \:D

Also, just as a rough point of comparison, I tested a FW230 Horizon with the 5.7 GXi w/ VP DP and that boat really performed well. The hole shot was great. It jumped on plane in less than 3 secs. For skiing and wakeboarding, it didn't need WOT to pull them up.

I can't remember what top speed was, but I think it was around 55 according to speedo.

Not sure how the Cobalt compares to the FW230 with regard to weight, but I would expect the same, if not even better performance.

I don't know Jim, I'm thinking I'm getting more excited about this than you. Maybe I should cancel my meetings.... Will your dealer trade for a FW200? ;\)

Jim,

I'm getting in on this discussion a bit late. I made a 4 foot jump going to my current boat. It makes a huge difference in ride, you and your family will really appreciate the nicer ride when the chop kicks up. If you don't use WOT much now, you probably will not miss the power so I would not sweat it. I went from a little rocket of a boat to an adequately accelerating boat and I have become used to it. It'a all relative.

You will, however, be using a lot more gas... Have you thought of that? My feul usage went from 400 gallons last year to over 800 gallons this year.

Lemme know when you are gonna be at Center Harbor public dock in Impulse2, I'll bring my drill and my hardware kit...

Hi all,

Just got back from the dealer. What can I say, it's a beautiful boat. There is little doubt in my mind now. Tons of storage, lots more room to move, the head is impressive in size for a bowrider. Neat compass too, right in the dash. All in all, it's really a no brainer as long as she performs, and I'm pretty sure she will.

I was a little off on the deal though, he's not throwing in the ESP, he'll give it to me for cost + installation.

BUT, he'll winterize and store it for nothing (save me the cost of winterization and storage of my 200) and he'll throw my commission from the boat I sold at the show right into the boat deal, rather than cutting me a check for it. So, the ESP becomes a wash (and that commission was "found" money anyway).

Not worried about gas. Funny, I don't mind boat gas for some reason.

Installing the GPS may prove to be even harder, but I'll figure it out (with DaveRs help!).

Waterdog, I'm sure he'd take your boat in trade, but not for the 240, I think that one is mine!

I read a boattest.com report on the 240 that was done with a 5.0l - 270hp, and it planed in 3.5sec, was going 30 in 7 sec and topped out at 50mph.

I'll have the ESP on before delivery. They'll probably install it for me over the winter, since they'll have the boat anyway. I was going to winterize/store my 200 next week, so no worries there.

Waterlogged, you can have the next one, I'll keep ya posted!

You may have to chase waterdog though!

Great news.

I figured that the ESP would not be a throw in. As I mentioned in my previous post, they are quite expensive.

I love mine and sure you will love yours too. Good luck. If I can answer any questions for you (as a current 240 owner, don't hesitate to send me a pm.

I have been out all week and just saw this.

Honestly, I do not know why it is not yours already! What a killer deal! You will love it. BTW, good choice on the ESP, it "makes" the boat. The storage is awesome, too.

My advice: Do not pass GO, Do not collect $200, go straight to the dealer with your checkbook!

Most likely outcome, true.

Starting to get a pang of guilt when I see Impulse in the driveway tho'. Had a lot of fun on that boat this year...

I'm sure I'll get over it. Test drive on Monday.

Yeah, if you cant't look your boat in the docking lights, you've come to terms that you're dumping her for an upgraded model. It happens, she'll get over it.
