Looking for suggestions for a good port of call on the West coast of MI for this August.

Any suggestions?

West Coast of Lake Michigan or the western coast of Michigan?
Not at all familiar with anything out there other than overnighting in Milwaukee or Traverse City MI.
Traverse City was a real good time. Good time Americana when we were there over the Cherry Festival one year Nice marina within 1/2 mile of our overnight hotel and a city beach that was hopping. Food trucks and entertainment zone within walking distance of the marina.
You being from WI, you know Milwaukee better than I, but I've had some really great overnights there too, with the night life on the canal zone, The Harley Museum and the Bronze Fonz.

What part are you looking? Lots of territory. Up north or down south?

Sleeping Bear Dunes are worth checking out. We also enjoyed the cherry festival in Traverse City, I think it occurs over July 4th. The Admiral and I also rented a canoe and paddled down a "river", that was more like a creek with overhanging trees. Near the end there was a sign, "Divorced Yet?"...and let's just say it was a VERY timely sign to help us crack a smile. I don't remember much else about the area.

If any of your kids are artistic, you can check out Interlochen Arts Academy while you are up there...went to college with a dancer who went there. She was extremely bright, so I assume it was a good school. Interesting story actually....she majored in Art History in college so what did she become? President of a large division of a global clothing mfg and retailer and is currently CEO of a different multi-billion dollar publicly traded company. Sometimes parents and guidance counselors are wrong! nono

Further south, I recall Grand Haven being nice. We used to sail over to Michigan City (ironically in Indiana), New Buffalo and St. Joseph on long weekends from Chicago but not a ton to recommend there other than the Warren Dunes area..at least not back in the 90s. I do remember getting up to Grand Haven once though and being pleasantly surprised.

Michigan side of Lake Michigan. Anywhere from South Haven to White Lake. My knowledge of the area is way out of date, and wondering which ports have the nicest marinas and fun events.

Actually reading your post Dock, I'm pretty sure it was South Haven, NOT Grand Haven, that we visited. My info is very outdated as well...our trips were in the 90s and early 2000s.

We anchored off shore at Michigan City and just came in the harbor during the day. There was a restaurant in the harbor and town was actually close enough to walk to. New Buffalo actually had guest docks, not much else near the harbor. We anchored off of St. Joe as well, but could tie up on a wall in the river during the day. Several places within walking distance. Don't remember much about South Haven except it didn't seem to have the post-industrial, best days behind it, feel of the other places.

Who was the graphics guy from back in the day on BABC that lived over on that side?...also the electrical engineer project guy "Al" was from that side as I recall....believe he flipped over to RV'ing a number of years back.
