I discovered this product at a local boat show. it is essentially a hydrofoil that attaches to the bottom of the keg instead of the cavitation plate.

Benefits:
  • Protects prop from damage caused by under water objects
  • Protects marine animals from prop strikes
  • Improved efficiency (reduced fuel costs)
  • Hold plane at a lower speed for a smoother ride in choppy water
  • Gets boat on plane faster/easier, eliminating the need to use trim tabs
  • Softer ride

Hyro-Foil

I am actually interested enough to give it a try. However, the installation requires the drilling of holes in the skeg, so if try it and don't like it, I will have holes in my skeg.

No affiliation.

Never seen it before, but seems like a more useful evolution of the SE Sport 200 Hydrofoil that I tried back in the day. It didn't do a whole lot for me performance wise, but the Hydro-Shield one you linked to looks like it has a shot of protecting the prop at least, even if it doesn't improve performance. I would have probably given it a try on the first lake I boated that had stumps and where we beached on sand bars more than we do now.

I've had the leftover holes in my outdrive for years now! I keep meaning to get around to filling them with Marinetex or similar, sanding and painting...but since the boat is now 22 years old, I don't think it's going to happen. smile

I'd be concerned putting that much stress on the skeg. If your boat has trim tabs can't imagine you would need more lift.
