You do need to have compatible HO combo skis b/c they attach to the top of the back of each ski. Doubt they would work on other brands unless the thru-bolt pattern for the rear fins is standard among brands.
Yes, we are still going strong. I turned 60 in September, but that’s just a number, right?
I still have about 8 regular ski buddies - all of us in that 57 - 62 yr old range and while activity was down a little bit last summer, still skied about 50 days.
I forgot this forum doesn’t provide for direct photo uploads. the old service I used is maxed out. If I can figure something out.....These won’t display, but links should work:
@waterwing I’m definitely blessed to have access 15 min away, and partners in crime who keep calling.
A network of skiers is something I’ve been cultivating since 1997. The group has changed some over 24 yrs (mostly smaller) but it’s not a solo sport. It takes me a dozen times skiing each spring to get beyond the pain of restarting the season, another dozen times before I’m at full strength. Then skiing a couple times a week minimum to not be slipping backwards.
I’ve tried both, but haven’t put in the time to improve. Surfing has some unique appeal as low-speed and a more social thing riding close to the boat. I HATE the large wakes the boats throw.
Since we are on a public lake, we do 95% of our skiing before 7:30 am. That avoids wind and other boat traffic. And there’s time to ski and still make it to work M - F.
I'm with you on the surf wake. Drives me crazy to be relaxing on the hook and then almost thrown out of my boat when one comes by. No stereotype intended, but on our small private access lake frequently the younger set doesn't understand how close they are to others when they're going by. There is literally never law enforcement on the lake, so it can feel like a zoo sometimes.
I do enjoy wake surfing, at least the couple of times I have done it. The problem I have with the wake surf boats is how it erodes the shore line. I am getting my shoreline rip rapped to stop it.
