Yes, craziness abounds . . . You are wise to wait it out. I think everyone with money or able to get credit went out and bought 'social distance friendly' toys, instead of going to Disney world or on a Caribbean cruise.

What may happen next is that folks loose their jobs, money gets tight, and the 'avalanche' of these toys ensues. I am planning on being ready to get good deal on a 37 foot something or other in 2022 . . . laugh

I'm seriously considering posting baby blue for sale at a stupid price to see what happens.

This morning, I was talking to one of the boat rental companies at Smith Mountain Lake. He said he's made more income in the last couple of months than he did all of 2018 and 2019. He said he was toying with the idea of adding several more boats to his rental fleet, but is really concerned that the current demand cannot be sustained into next year. He does think quite a few barely used boats will become available next year. He also said that although income has gone up, so have his maintenance and repair costs. Newbies are damaging the props or lower units and hours on the engines are accumulating at rates that his techs can't keep up with (for scheduled maintenance).

I've found a few listings for Cobalts that were used as rentals for one or two seasons. One, a 2020 220s used this season only, already has >500 hours on the engine. Asking price is ~$62K. Won't be available until after labor day, so hours could be >600 by then.

Waterdog still sitting on the sidelines.....

This crazy RV-boat buying craze is, JUST in my opinion, driven by the sheer boredom of those with money needing to find something to do. It's a flash in the pan that's just going to drive DOWN boat prices by summer of 2022, maybe even by next summer. Of all these new boat/RV owners, I'll bet not 30% of them have a friggin clue as to the actual work involved with just GOING camping or boating (I sure do, it's how 'frantically relaxing' was born! :D), the cost of fuel and winterizing and general maintenance. Most people who buy hot tubs can't be bothered with checking pH and chlorine levels twice a week and never use them. Even by next spring I'm betting that a whole crapload of I/O boats will need new engines, a whole bunch of those and maybe quite a few without busted blocks will be up for sale. Assuming we have a handle on this stupid pandemic by the end of next year, my bet is by spring of 2022 there's going to be so many boats & RV's for sale that as far as new sales go, 2009 will look like a banner sales year in comparison.

So sell 'em while ya got em! I REALLY should put the Party Cruiser up for sale, but I just plain don't have the time to put it into operation condition. As I type this, I SHOULD be at the harbor grinding and sanding on the SkipperLiner, but instead I'm making microphone wind screens, ski lift operator panels, ID plates for mining truck, part numbering SS butt flanges, making breaker box labels for the new SLC airport and the new Amazon warehouse in town, engraving urns for pets, radiator covers for old GM G-body cars, and that's just all I can think of at the moment - wink

Don't need to sell the PC anyway, once the Skip is done we'll probably haul it to Flaming Gorge and put it in dry dock.

So there's my predictions above, we'll see I guess! smile

Funny you said that. Floated the idea past the wife this weekend while floating in the cove & she said i would have to wait a month because she doesn't want to give up any boat time. She has no problem with a bigger boat though.

I recently looked a new Formula. Holey Shiitt, the cost was unbelievable, so I thought to look at some used ones. Good Grief. The outlay of cash is not going to get me anymore fun than I do now in my 16 year old boat. I may look again in a year or so once the economy tanks.

Yes, Formula pricing has always been a step above many, but in this market . . . its nuts. . . probably more so on the used boats than ever before. I've been contemplating selling my 24 year old Formula and upgrading to a bigger boat or at least a newer Formula with more features and bling. But I think I'll hang on for a couple more years at this point.

Of course if I did want a new Formula, I could get a 2020 350 CBR for a mere $472K shocked triple outboards though . . . laugh

We just moved to Virginia Beach and are looking at boats, but the prices are effing retarded. Inventory is low too, which tells me everyone is holding onto their outdoor stuff. Makes sense, since that's about all you can do other than staying home.

My friend just sold a 26' Rinker for $10k over NADA. Crazy. Had people lined up to buy. Definitely a sellers market right now.

Craziness appears to have hit all segments. Boats, Slips, etc... even in the larger boats, not much inventory and some of what is out there is definitely in the 'used' category. Never ceases to amaze me how people simply don't put in the effort to maintain and keep up nice things...

My boat is still in Seattle at the Sea Ray dealer for sale. That trip to Seattle we started in July that was busted by the failure of the $2 part caused us to miss last fall's boating market. I'm thinking that somewhere around the end of Feb or sometime in March I'm going to start getting calls from my broker about offers.

Funny thing--last week I had a dream where there was a bidding war for Beachcomber. Now THAT is what you call a good dream.

We are blessed to have a second home on a lake, last summer the rental market was crazy for lakefront houses and we did quite well. The house across from us went up for sale and sold within days with multiple offers. The selling price was $30k more than asking price and the house needs about $100k in repairs and upgrades. Hopfully this summer will also have a lucrative rental market for us with more people staying "local". Glad I'm not in the market for any toys right now as they all seem to be at a premium.

Well after kissing a bunch of frogs on our hunt, we think we found our winner. Survey and samples being completed on a well cared for 2013 Meridian 441 Sedan Bridge this week. All goes well, we may call her 'ours' by month's end.

Currently located in fresh water with navigable path to the gulf. But will hang out in the area she's in for a while to enjoy those adventures first. Then in time will eventually be headed for a slip in the gulf and SW Florida Cape Coral area to explore all there is to do around both coasts of FL and the Bahamas.

Prefer not to stay landlocked in CO all the time and working from 'home' has been redefined, so... WiFi in the marinas opens up new horizons and opportunities to abandon some of the winter chill.

Funny thing timing... the older you get, the less it becomes about timing it perfectly and more about making sure you use the time while you have it.

Not sure how long these next adventures will last, but I am stupid lucky to have an amazing Admiral that is game for seeking them out together.

Fingers crossed.
