I have a 1989 Regal Sebring 195 with an Alpha One outdrive. I noticed as the season was winding down that my trim pump was doing a great job of imitating the sound of a scalded cat, so I decided a great holiday project would be for me to replace the trim pump. I completed that job today and the new pump itself seems to be working fine. However, I noticed that when I'm lifting the drive using the trailering button (ie taking it all the way up) that the pump continues to run after it is all the way up. I am embarrassed to say that I can't clearly remember if the pump has historically shut off as I approached the full up position, or not, but I thought it used to do that.

Can someone please confirm that expectation, of the trim limiting switch stopping it for me when taking it all the way up using the trailering button? Or, does the trim limiter ONLY stop the pump when lifting the drive through the intended limited range of motion per the trim up button (because that is actually working fine).

If the trim limiting switch has failed, does it usually fail in a way that lets you lift the drive (which would be desirable I guess) vs. it failing in a way that cuts the circuit and prevents any motion at all? If I have a problem with the switch, is there relatively easy maintenance or adjustment that I can do, or am I looking at the need to replace the switch? Thanks, in advance, for any insight on this !

I'm pretty sure mine changes pitch at the top with the trailer button, trim button just stops. Of course, now I'm second guessing myself and it'll be months before I can check...

The later of the two . . . the trim limit switch only works on the regular Trim Switch, not the Trailer switch.

The pump will still run via the trailer button even if you reach the top of the travel of the outdrive. The change in pitch is telltale that you reached the top.

Same issue with the trim switch in reaching the lower end of travel (drive all the way down).

The limit switch's only function is to limit the upward travel of the outdrive, using the regular trim button. This is so you don't inadvertently raise the outdrive too much while underway.
