PA and Smith Mountain Lake
My wife and I have been alternating weekends we go to the lake house as my oldest is playing a fall sport and has games on the weekends. Last weekend was my time to go and I took the boat out of the water and brought her home for winter storage at my full time house.

Sunday morning I lowered the lift to make sure the boat would start since it has been since Labor Day that it was last started. I then docked it next to my floater dock. I hooked up the trailer to the truck and off to top of the tires with the proper air pressure and then to the ramp. The ramp is 5.25 miles from my lake house so I then ran back home, took a shower, and off to the boat ramp which is what my wife normally does.

At the ramp there was a pontoon at the one courtesy dock therefore I needed to tie up on the ramp side of the dock. Since it was a quiet Sunday morning the ramp was not busy. I then backed my trailer right under the boat and floated the boat onto the trailer and pulled the boat out and prepared it for my 375 mile trip home.

All was well until about 2 hours into my trip were signs that Route 81 was closed due to an accident. It took me an extra 2 hours to go 10 miles.

I had a fun time bonding with my second mate and got a nice run in. The boat will be winterized this weekend for its winter's nap.

Sorry no pictures but rest assured this event did occur.

I know the feeling. Just when you're doing things right and making good time, something jumps up and bites you on the bumm and throws a monkey wrench in the works. Glad all things went well and you got her home OK.

We had our pulled on Wednesday this week. The trip "home" was about 100 feet as the crow flies, the marina yard guy puts our boat quite near the travel lift because it's at the limit for the lift and it makes him nervous to lift it. Winterized it yesterday. I live about 5 blocks from the marina now, so will be doing all kinds of work on the boat this off-season.

Dave, it's nice to be close to the marina and be able to just make a quick trip over whenever you want to. We didn't have it quite that good with Beachcomber , it was about a 10 minute drive.

Now we have it better though. Our 13' Whaler that we had in AZ is now in our garage in WA. It's about a 30 second commute. thumb

WInterized the boat this morning. All covered up & tucked away in the barn for a long winters nap.

Put a new cover on the Party Cruiser yesterday, in the nick of time-- Woke up to snow today, and it's like 22° out right now and windy as shi#...

To not [censored] off the harbor owner I didn't park the motorhome next to the houseboat this year, so it's still under wraps from last year.

Guess if there's a silver lining to not using any toys it's that the winterizing is easy...

That's how my last boat situation was and it allowed me to keep the boat pristine, I built a really nice 18x28 carport for it on the end of my garage and it was easy to maintain and upgrade throughout the off-season.

I love being close to the big boat now, but the downside of my current situation is that I no longer have my two shops (woodworking shop and mechanical/metal-fab shop). If I need to use a big tools, my friend's shop about 30 minutes away (same distance from the marina as the house/shops I just sold last month). The upside is that said friend has a fantastic shop and 23 acres of land where he lets me keep my two PWCs, my RIB, and my three trailers, for the off-season.

FR, we drove through your neck of the woods this past week when we were bringing the Whaler home. Overnighted the night before in Lehi then the next night in Boise. Sounds like we got through there just in time.

For those of you who are familiar with Cabbage Hill in OR, here's what it looked like when we were headed down. This was about 2pm.

For those of you not familiar with it, it's about a 6 mile downgrade with a 6% grade. It gets a LOT of snow and frequent fog like shown above. We were driving about 25mph withg the flashers on.

Aw, C'mon Kevin, it was a ton of fun. At 20-25mph. Anything faster than that and it got downright scary!

Temp got down to 19° next morning, broke a 142 year old coldest Oct 26 record of 22° in 1878... Now if we could just get it to rain and snow a little bit...

James, After about 6.5 hours of sitting behind the wheel when we got to the hotel we were too tired to do much. We mixed a drink, ordered our dinner from room service then hit the sack.

Which brings up a question. We stayed at a very nice hotel (Riverside) in Boise. But why is it I can order food and have Uber deliver it nice and hot, but when I ordered room service and got the house special burger it got to the room just warm?

C'mon Man, the guy who brought our dinner only had to walk a couple hundred yards to our room. He must have stopped to chat along the way.

I pulled the boat a while back, lake got cold and if I can't jump in I'm pretty much done and would rather have the driveway clear at that point.

I pulled our subdivision dock a week or so ago, gave warning earlier in the week and did the deed on Sunday afternoon. Of course, had the complainers that it go pulled too early. Temps started bottoming out and I'm feeling awfully smug as I have NO desire to do a volunteer job in nasty weather (I said as much on the complaining post).

Sounds like good timing on your part casualboater. Our weather has been pretty crappy this week. Had some light snow monday & tuesday. Today woke up to a nice frost.

And didn't message us or stop by FR's home port while in Lehi? You were less than a mile from his collection of unused toys, and passed within 2 miles of us.

Geeesh, Guys. I'm sorry. I was so damned tired from driving that all I wanted to do was get to the motel, fix a drink, grab a bite and hit the hay. After the chemo crap I went through this year, those long distance endurance drives were just about taxing me to my limit.
