I’m and old fart, kind of along the lines of Mike Ditka, who recently shared his feelings about people who participate in professional sports and kneel during the National Anthem. Unlike Mike Ditka, it also offends me that they have taken to playing some other “anthem” before some games.

Ditka and I may be part of a dying breed of patriots who believe if you live here you should show respect for our flag, our National Anthem and our country. If you can’t do that then maybe this is not the right place for you to call home. If a person feels strongly that this country is so bad that they cannot stand for the 1:40 that it takes to play the National Anthem I’m sure they wouldn’t want to live here and could pick somewhere else.

I’ll be the first to say that our country is not perfect. But show me another country where people enjoy the freedoms we enjoy and the standard of living that is available if one is willing to work for it.

So with Sunday not being consumed by baseball (which I never watch anyway, it’s about as exciting as watching grass grow) or soccer or football that leaves me lots of time for new activities. I’ll think of something to do. Maybe watching the grass grow or paint dry.

What say you?

I agree GFC. It is hard to sympathize with athletes cashing million dollar checks. If it is so bad leave. No one is forcing to stay or play.

I am with you on this GFC. I really don't care for wasting time and watching sports on TV. I do enjoy going to a Pro sports game now and then but to sit home and watch. NAaa. Too much other stuff to do.

Australia.

Every country has its good points and not so good points. I choose to live in the US and enjoy its many many good points.

Bingo, you nailed it. We all have choices to make and one of those is where we choose to live.

You mentioned Austrailia. I know there are many other countries that offer a quality of life similar to ours, but, like you, I choose to live here.

I watched some baseball last weekend with my oldest as he is a pitcher for his 12U travel team. We enjoy talking about pitching strategies and is a great bonding time for us. The games I watched, I started watching after the first pitch and missed all the junk before hand.

I got a request on another boating forum from a guy who wants to buy a couple of bumper stickers I had made up. Here's what they look like:

[Linked Image]

It's hard to see but the background is the LEO version of the American flag, complete with the blue line. I had 200 of them printed and passed them out to local police and sheriff departments. I ran out and still have 2 departments left so I had 200 more printed and they'll be ready tomorrow.

So, if any of you want to buy a couple, PM me with your name and address info and I'll send back my name (no, I really don't go by GFC in real life!) and address and I'll stick your stickers in the mail to you.

Absolutely love it.
PM is on its way But, and It's a Big But, I would be afraid to actually have it on any of my cars due to the nature of the people who think otherwise.

I thought about that, but decided that being silent about what I feel is right is not acceptable to me. Maybe that goes back to when I was growing up near the end of segregation and my father stood up for racial equality in an area where he was pretty much the only white guy doing it. Decades later, he was honored with a lifetime achievement award from the county for his social justice efforts throughout his life.

WWG, your dad is a hero and the award he got was well earned.

I grew up in a very prejudiced family and as I got older and saw how wrong that was I was determined to break that chain of prejudice. I did, and my kids are not prejudiced now. That's one of my best accomplishments and I am proud of it.

BTW, two guys from other boating forums have asked to get some bumper stickers. They have used PayPal to pay me and I'll mail their stickers out today. $5 buys a pair and includes mailing costs.

If anyone wants a couple just PM me. I'll give you my email address for PayPal and send you two of them.
