One person is missing and four others were injured in what is believed to be an electrocution incident at an Arizona lake Sunday.
wo people were transported in critical condition to a hospital from Scorpion Bay Marina on Lake Pleasant in Peoria Sunday, said Capt. Mario Bravo of the Peoria Fire Department during a press briefing.
Two additional victims refused aid at the scene, Bravo said.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is working to retrieve the body of a fifth victim from the lake, according to Bravo.

Lake Pleasant is about 40 miles northwest of Phoenix.

That happens way too often. Not sure why anyone would think it is a good idea to swim at a marina

That lake is Lake Pleasant and that's where we boat all the time when we're down in AZ. It happened at the end of a long dock in Scorpion Bay. The report I heard said that two people drowned from ESD (Electrical Shock Drowning) and that a few others were shocked and in critical condition but were transported to a hospital in Phoenix.

First responders discovered that there was an electrical feed into the water and spent several minutes shutting off the power before the divers could get into the water.

Kevin, I think the answer to your question is that most people have never heard of ESD and aren't aware of the dangers.

On another forum I participate in, one of the members is having problems tripping GFCI breakers at his dock. His dock neighbors suggested he replace the GFCI breakers with standard breakers to "fix" the problem!

Follow up stories on this tragedy indicate that the two brothers who drowned had a problem with their boat and circumvented the marina's safety systems...

That is scary that someone with a boat at the dock recommended replacing the gfci breakers with normal ones.

They not only recommended it, but apparently had "solved" their own problems by doing that! I wonder if the marina even knows what is going on there.
