Looks like the boating industry has had another Covid related loss. This time Evinrude has decided to cease production.

Sad when any compant bites the dust due to this virus.

I was surprised - they are a big company that made top notch engines owned buy a major company - BRP.

Makes you wonder what other companies are on the edge of failing next.

Scary times.

Disagree it was due to the virus. The virus may have tipped the scale a little but their outboard sales were not able to sustain their investment before the virus.
The end was due to come with or without the virus. Same as a lot of companies out there. I have no problem with that. Let the strong survive.

I stand corrected and I agree about the strong surviving. Darwinism at it's best.

Thanks for setting me straight on that.

Still sad to see another one go. Doesn't speak well for the boating industry. Makes you wonder who is next?

Although I have never owned an outboard, I have been impressed by BRP's engineering, particularly 2-stroke power, cabling, etc, and even by their attempt to match colors to specific boats. As I read between the lines of this statement, I can believe that their fall is the result of their failing to build a supply chain of dealers of new boats. Many times this focus on only one aspect of their potential business is fatal.

I agree Jack. Most often business fail because of management, not the economy, not the unions, not Covid19, but pure decisions made by overpaid executives unwilling or unaware of the changing environment of business. Companies today have to be jack be nimble, jack be quick and not stiuck in the "god dammit, We have done it this way for 10 years (or more), it worked then and its gotta work now."

I agree 100%. Whenever I hear someone say "Weve always done it that way" it sounds to me like it's time to start looking for new ways to do that task. Being locked in complacency is never a good thing.
