Hey folks,

I installed a four camera home security system the other day. I'm getting too damn old to dance Swan Lake on Attic Joists.
It is a Power Over Ethernet (POE) arrangement. There is an 8 channel Network Video Recorder that each of the cameras plugs into a channel, leaving 4 for future expansion if so desired.

The cameras are pretty nice for budget stuff. 5mp with a 2560 x 1920 resolution at 30 FPS, color and IR with built in microphone. The NVR has a 2TB HDD.

The install and setup was pretty painless, had to extend one of the Cat 5 cables by 20 feet or so.

The cameras are 3 axis adjustable with only one bolt having to be loosened. Weather rated as well.

But anyway I have this one issue, three of the four channels do not display an icon when their motion detection has been tripped and they are recording. They record just fine and send the notification out via cell phone push, email and a beeper if I enable it.

The icon is nice when setting up the sensitivity of the motion detection.

The company has asked that I provide them with the Unique ID number (UID) and password to my NVR so they can verify the issue. If found as I described they will likely replace the NVR.

However this thing is plugged into one of two LAN ports of my router, I am hesitant for this reason to give them access.

They don't want the router password or anything like that, just the UID and password of their NVR.

Am I being paranoid or should a allow this? I can change the password of the NVR when they are done.

Thoughts?

Don't think you are being paranoid.

Think i'd allow them access & change passwords once they are done.

Today is finally slow at work, I want to get cameras for my dock so I can check out the boat and my renters. I do get WiFi at my dock too so that is great.

I use Nest cameras. Put them on at the TN Lake House before I moved from CA. One on the drive and one looking at the backyard and dock. The dock was empty so no need for close up. I could also talk to whomever came down the drive.

I have a friend who uses battery powered Ring doorbells at his slip to watch over his boat. He has one at the bow and one at the stern, both on the dock. He has had some interesting videos of unattended visitors and storms.
