Recently I've seen more and more ads on TV about companies wanting to sell you a car online. Carvana temps you with its car vending machine and offers to buy your car from you, all while you enjoy surfing online at home.

This whole scheme seems to be aimed at Millennials. That's the age group they show in their ads. People lying around in their pajamas with their laptop in front of them. They all seem so happy and pleased to be able to buy a car from the comfort of their own home.

My question to you is, would you buy a car online?

I found this car on CarGurus, purchased over the internet, site unseen. I was looking for a very specific car that I could not find locally. I have owned the car for 6 years now and have been very pleased (i.e. no issues).

Similar to Dock Holiday, I once bought a new car sight unseen. It was a rare car and the only one left east of the Mississippi. When I arrived to pick it up, the paint had been damaged and the dealer repainted the whole car. Since I lived a long way from the dealer, they paid to fly me back to the dealership to get the car. It was a pain in the rear, but I ended up with the car I wanted, so no regrets.

I have a number of friends who bought cars online and had a local mechanic check out the car for a reasonable fee. All seemed to be pleased with the results. I think buying a used car from a company that checks and guarantees the cars is going to be the way of the future. Not many people know how to work on cars anymore.

I bought my wife an Infiniti G35x a few years ago over the phone from a dealer in Sacramento. He had the car I wanted with the options I wanted and in the right color. He offered it to me at invoice and after faxing a few docs back and forth he arranged to have it shipped to me on a convoy carrier.

I'd do that with a new car but never with a used one. Too much can go wrong and I don't want the hassles.

Don't get me started on car dealers...I've also bought from a distance...took a one way flight a few years ago to save a buck...or 3,000 them more accurately. I would consider Carvana, they supposedly offer a 7 day trial.

So when you put money in this car vending machine and a car doesn’t come out, do you shake it?
