My motto has long been "If you don't ask, you won't get."

I was planning on putting some diesel in the boat this weekend. It's getting a bit on the low side and I figure the water's way too cold to swim if we run out so I called the fuel distributor to ask about a discount.

I think I could easily put 200 gallons in it right now (it has a 700 gallon capacity) and thought that might be worthy of a discount. The current price at our club is $2.99.08, I asked what kind of a discount I could get if I put in at least 200 gallons. The lady I spoke with called me back today and said I'd get a $.30/gallon discount.

Well heck, that saves me $60 on 200 gallons so that's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Great news, I use a store rewards card and store credit card for my fuel purchases. I get $0.03 off for the rewards and $0.05 off for the credit card. I saw on a receipt I had some points so I logged onto the website and saw I can get a free order of french fries or some other food items however I never go into the convenience store except to pee. I did see that I can get an additional $0.05 off per gallon for less points than a free order of fries.

Right wrong or otherwise, many people at my lake fill up 5 gallon gas cans and fill at their dock.

I use the Shell fuel rewards card that always gets you $0.05 off a gallon. But if you get gas on Tuesday they give you $0.10 off per gallon. Combine that with whatever of my credit cards is offering the best deal at the time. Discover & Chase both offer 5% on different quarters so that covers 6 months of the year. Costco Citibank card gives 4% back on gas. Every little bit helps.

I use the Costco Citibank card for all my gas purchases and enjoy that 4% back. The company that fills the tanks at the yacht club has their own account system so that's all they accept. The $.30/gallon discount amounts to a 10% discount. That works in my world.

That makes two of us on this board. And, we are not limited to getting the money back only if we purchase at Costco. This is particularly good because we have a diesel VW and Costco doesn't sell diesel fuel. In SoCA, regular gas is typically $3.899 and more. 4% is $0.16 a gallon.

Wow, Jack, you're paying a lot for regular gas. I filled up at our neighborhood quick stop, a small independently owned gas station yesterday at $2.85, and their diesel price was just under $3.

Our club prices on regular and diesel are usually within a penny of what Costco charges. With my discount on the volume purchase I'm buying it below with the street price is for diesel. Gotta love that.

Since our boat is hauled out for the Winter, we had a local oil company deliver 178 gallons of off-road diesel to the boat to fill it up. Was $.40 a gallon cheaper than we pay at the state fuel dock. They cannot fill us up at the dock due to insurance reasons.

Yep. We sure do. The gas tax and vehicle registration fees increase was supposed to give us lots of money for repair of the almost worst roads in the country. Then the governor pulled $5 Billion for other things. Now, they are trying to get even more from us. They are all liars and crooks.

Well I must admit I was wrong in my original post. I thought I heard her say the price was going to be $2.69 after the $.30/gallon discount. When we showed up to take on some diesel I noticed the pump price was actually $2.69,

[Linked Image]

So I put about 72 gallons in the stbd tank and the rest in the port tank. With 20/20 hindsight I probably should have filled the main tank. It is about half full but we won't be going on any long trips soon.

After fueling up we did about a 2 hour cruise up a very chilly and very foggy Columbia river. We only saw one other boat, a small fishing boat, and I ran with the radar on. With visibility about 1/4-1/2 mile it was nice to be able to "see" through the fog.

So did you hear me land last night about 9PM? I know you wouldn't have been able to see me, as the visibility was right at the absolute minimum to actually land.
Thought for sure I'd be deicing this morning, but the winds picked up sometime in the middle of the night and the Temps came up about 9 degrees. Clear skies, but strong winds for departure at 6AM
Great weather ya'll have there in Pasco. About 3 weeks ago I got to land with a glorious 38 Knot (43 MPH) crosswind, that should have been straight down the runway, but that runway was closed for construction. You trying to avoid me seeing what you're doing for the upcoming parade?

Justi, hell no I'm not trying to avoid you seeing what we're going to be doing for the parade. In fact, if you're going to be in town on Saturday, December 7th, come on along with us. We're actually overfilled on Friday night but Saturday we have a couple of slots open. You'd need to be at the docks by around 5:00 p.m. but you're welcome to join in the fun.

Our winds can be hellatious. They woke me up around 0400 with the sounds of a hurricane blowing around the house. By the time the sun was up the winds had calmed down and the temps were actually quite pleasant today. I spent a couple of hours cleaning up the fly bridge to get it ready for the parade. It was really nice. Sunny, warm, no wind. My kinda day.

So, seriously, if you can make it drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send you the info you need.

Oh GFC, I think you're part of the Illuminati and are controlling the weather every time I fly into Pasco to hide your mind control games that are going to be emanating from your boat during the parade. rolleyes. You must be designing and installing chem trail dispensers and last night was a trial run with the fog machine.

It's always fun flying into PSC. I try to make it so my FOs are flying the departure so I can try to spot your boat, but lately they've been departing us on the north west runway and turning us right to head eastbound so the river is too far away to really check it out. Last night was the first overnight I've had there since the parade I got to ride along in and it was one of the super short overnights where we hit the hotel and catch as much sleep as possible during a break in our overnight shift, otherwise I would have used your motto of "If you don't ask to head out on your boat you won't get a ride" and at least tried to meet up for a drink.

Thanks for the offer for being in the parade, but I'll be in San Antonio that night.. Regretfully must miss out on a good time again.

We have a little mom and pop quick stop and gas station about 3/4 mile from our house. It is usually within a penny of Costco, but I saw Costco's price a few days ago at $2.99.9. The mom and pop place was at $2.85.9

$1.99?

I live 15 miles from 5 refineries-
Most of the oil they refine comes from Wyoming, the border of which is 80 miles from me, and some comes from Canada, which is a day's drive from me (a long day, but a day)-
Our regular gas is 85 octane, almost everyone else's regular is at least 87,
and the average price for this locally refined from reasonably local oil 85 octane pee, is about $2.99. I haven't seen it less than $2.79 since the oil fires started. The lowest I've seen diesel is $2.99...

Can someone explain why we're NOT paying LESS than everyone else in the country instead of MORE?

Over the weekend one station diesel was $3.25 and 5 miles down the road at the same brand station diesel was $4.29. I hoped they placed the wrong number on the sign as I just about choked.

OH, was the more expensive of the two close by a freeway offramp? That's often the case because they figure people just want to get off the freeway, gas up and get back on.

If any of you are nor familiar with the app Gas Buddy, you should become familiar with it. Especially if you do a fair amount of traveling and just plain driving.

As a way of showing how much one can save by using it, I picked Bountiful, UT which I think is near where FR lives. There's a $.23 spread between the lowest and highest price gas stations (regular unleaded). There are two Maverik stations priced at $2.93 and a pair of Chevron stations priced at $3.06.

Looking at the map it appears most stations are clustered along I-15. The map also showed two stations (one a Maverik and one a Flying J) along highway 68, both priced at $2.85. So that makes the spread in price $.31. Not too bad.

In our area there's a spread of $.41 between highest and lowest. Lowest is the little mom and pop near us that's at $2.86. Highest is a Shell station at $3.27.

So if a guy didn't shop prices and just happened to go into that Shell and bought 20 gallons, he'd pay over $8.00 more for the same amount of gas than he would if he used Gas Buddy.

Now some might argue there's a diff between the off brands (Maverik) and the chain brands (Shell). Darn. My car doesn't seem to notice any difference and gives me the same mileage from all brands.
