Getting the itch to buy a new truck.
I make no secrets to being a Die Hard Chevy guy and will never be without a diesel again.
Been Cruising the inventory list of the Dealers around here and the number of K2500 HDs are sparse, while the numbers of 3500HDs are better.
Don't have a need for that heavy a truck, and in all honesty I really don't have a NEED for a new truck.
What is your experience with owning/driving the heavier duty 1 tons instead of 3/4 tons?
salesman are worthless in getting honest information about this.

Have a friend that went to a F350 diesel & loves it. Good looking truck. Came from a 2500 Dodge cummins & said each had its strong points.

My boss has a 2500 GMC Denali diesel & it is an amazing truck. Rides great & it has plenty of power.

Lots of good choices out there. Planning on going to the auto show in Chicago this year to look.

I bought our F350 new in 1998 and still have it. At that time, there really wasn't much difference except in the thickness of the frame rails. As I recall, the heavier frame rails actually lowered the towing limits due to an overall weight restriction.

Justi, if I was looking at either of those two trucks, unless I had my eye on a really big boat or fifth wheel, I'd probably go with the 3/4 ton.

I used to haul my 330 around a couple of times a year and used both 3/4T and 1T to haul it. I didn't notice a significant diff between the two. Both had the same engine, both were with frame hitches, etc.

For me, since I tend to want to uphold my "BABC Cheapskate" title I'd probably go with the 3/4T unless I could find exactly what I wanted in a 1T at not a heck of a lot more.

I have a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton truck. Just today I was playing around on various sites building a new truck for fun. The big difference with a 3/4 and 1 ton truck is how much you can place in the bed of the truck while the towing difference between the two isn't that much. I would imagine the 1 ton would ride harder than the 3/4 ton.

My next truck will have an 8' bed, my two have short beds.

That's my thoughts too,. My problem is that of the roughly 10 Chevy dealerships around here 90% of their HD trucks are now 3500HD instead of 2500HDs. Yeah they're mostly Single rear wheels instead of Duallys, so I'm trying to figure out why the inversion on inventory, and what the real difference is.
When we were out test driving cars when my First Mate bought his Challenger I did test drive a one ton and it did ride much better than I thought something with that heavy a suspension would. It seems they sit about an inch or two higher than the 3/4 tons, which I think causes geometry problems with a tow hitch, although a two inch drop hitch really shouldn't be a show stopper.
I'm really not too serious on looking at replacing my 2004 LLY Duramax, since the admiral would want me to keep it as her truck to drive. As much as I try to Justify getting it I can't really ignore the reality of it's a want rather than a need and we want to buy retirement property to start prepping now for moving out of Utah once we retire. I already get grief from my neighbors about the used car lot I've got. I've got three cars (and the boat) in the garage, three cars in the driveway, and my Stepside behind the gate in the side yard, so I don't have any place to park another car.

My daily commuter is a F350 dually. Not worth buying a small car, registration and insurance to drive 20 miles each way to work. I have no issues driving it around.
I have other cars but just do not want to put the mileage on them. Driving the truck in traffic, I can see over the top of most vehicles and switch lanes to get around some jackass turning left at a time when it is clearly marked no left turn.

Justy-- Call Larry Miller Chevrolet in Murray, ask to talk to Brad, the sales manager (in the interest of semi-privacy, his last name begins with same letter as Larry Millers middle name) wink

Tell him you know me and I suggested you call him. He's a stand up guy, won't BS you about trucks (he gets a new one every year, maybe he'll sell you his, lol)

How do I know him? He's the one towing our Chap with his Chap smile (back when I had battery isolator issues and both batteries crapped out)...

He was our dock neighbor for about 3 years till the water levels forced him and his family (and bigger boat now) to Flaming Gorge. He sold us our Mustang, took care of some issues with our Chevy van, yada yada--
anyway, great guy, he's worth a phone call, and might even know where all the 3/4 ton'ers are hiding wink

My guess is that 3/4 tons are hard to find because they are all on the road jacked sky high with 30K in aftermarket parts on them. Yet, they don't see any dirt and only tow their $120K wakeboard boat.

When I buy a new truck, I'll look at 1 ton SRW trucks. Why? A little more in bed capacity for a camper. If inventory in inverted, they 1 ton may be cheaper.

I had a F350 about the time I joined BABC. Don't think it was any harsher of a ride than the 2500HD I have now.
