But why spend that kind of money, when time isn't really what they say it is.
What time do I need to be there?

So much wrong with this whole article just floors me.

Couldn't read the whole article however if I'm not at least 10 min early then I am late. Being punctual is something that doesn't cost you anything but will gain so much favor in the person that's waiting for you.

I've always been one who is prompt and like OH, if I'm not 10 minutes early, I'm late.

I used to work as a manager for a company with about 200 employees. The owner was extremely prompt and if he scheduled a meeting to start at 7:00 a.m. and you showed up at 7:01 he would simply say "Mr. so and so, you're late for my meeting and that's a discourtesy to those who got here on time, so you're excused from this meeting. If you want to find out what we covered you can ask your fellow workers who were on time. If they chose to share the info with you that's OK. If they choose not to, that's OK too. Goodbye."

In my job each of our partners tracks us as a whole and I personally get tracked on how we do on pushing back from the gate by scheduled departure time.
at the end of each quarter we get a small bonus based upon how well we've met those matrices. We also have arrival time goals, but since weather, traffic, deicing delays etc are beyond our control those are not "bonusable" items. However we are held to our next scheduled departure time even when arriving from a previous flight late.
We know that it takes time to offload the airplane, clean the airplane, stock the airplane, put fuel on the airplane and load the next group of passengers, so that is built into our schedule.
Amazing it took this long for the genius's at higher institutions of learning like Berkeley, Harvard, to know to SCHEDULE time between classes for movement from one class to another. Oh wait, Berkeley still hasn't learned that lesson

From what I can read, and there were similar articles here in Michigan this summer when this came out, I think the wording does a disservice to the students.

It's not like they just showed up 10 minutes late whenever they felt like it. The expectation was a 9:00 class starts at 9:10, so be there at 9:10. If you show up at 9:15, then yes, of course you're late and need to learn a life lesson. But, if the professor says I start at 9:10 and you're ready to go at 9:10 then what's the problem?

I'm a firm believer in start on time, END on time. Seems fair to everyone involved.

We often fly Allegiant between Pasco and Mesa-Gateway airport. If we're on an early flight it's usually close to being on schedule. Afternoon flights not so much. It's the old saying "Got time to spare? Fly Allegiant Air."

We're both retired so I don't care if they're late. I can sleep in the airport as well as on the plane.

It really shouldn't be that hard. If you want them to start at 10 after, publish that. If it's on the hour then it's on the hour.

I got to a meeting last year to find out they started early. I was pissed because I pride myself on being on time and I was a few minutes early. Just not early enough.

There is no such thing as "on time".

Found that out when the wife worked for UPS. She got dinged a few times for clocking in at 7:00:02, 06, 15, etc...

Found that out when trying to cancel an AOHell business called "Talk.com" many years ago:
"I want to cancel my service".
"You can't cancel today, you're in the middle of a monthly cycle".
"Ok, when's the new cycle start?"
"On the 1st"...
-ring ring-
"Hi, it's the 31st, I want to cancel."
"Sorry, we're still in the November monthly cycle"
-ring ring-
"Hi, it's the 1st, I want to cancel!"
"Sorry, but we just started the December monthly cycle..." ! gunner2

So yeah, you can either be early, or you can be late. "On Time" is just an illusion, a pipe dream, an unattainable goal... wink
