Haven't been active lately, was last down to our lake house over Labor Day. When we left I placed the boat as high as possible on the lift and tied dock lines to the pilings for belts and suspenders as we would be away. My dock neighbors thought I was strange for doing so but I would rather be safe than sorry.

A few days later Hurricane Florence was announcing her arrival to our lake, the lake people drained the lake about 4 feet that made our boat look even higher but after she blew through town the lake began to refill and eventually started to flood.

We'll be pulling the boat out of the water the first weekend in October and bringing her back home for winter storage. We've had a pretty decent amount of boating activity this summer, could always do more but not too bad based on our life activities.

Looks like a great summer. We did not get out as much as we would have liked to. Busy schedules & bad weather seemed to get in the way. Hoping to get one more boating trip in yet.

Our summer sucked. Big Time. In April I took the boat downriver to Portland to get an all new bimini made. New windows, new bimini roof, everything. The shop doing the work (Carol's Custom Canvas) got the work done on time and for what the owner had quoted and I was tickled with the work he did.

On the way back from Portland the port transmission went out. We didn't know it was locked in forward gear until we got to The Dalles, OR and tried to pull into their marina to overnight. Here's a link to a thread I did about that experience. [The Dalles trip

We couldn't take the boat back to Portland for repairs so we just left it at the marina in The Dalles, rented a car and came home. The two guys who had volunteered to help me get the boat back to Portland weren't available for a couple of weeks, then the winds kicked up and delayed our trip for a few weeks. Then Tina and I went on a previously scheduled trip to Europe for 2 1/2 weeks.

Once we got back (late July) my friend and I took the boat back to Portland without any major mishaps. We got it to the marina that was going to do the repairs which, coincidentally is the same marina that put Beachcomber back together after she was shipped across the country when I bought her.

So we've been without Beachcomber all summer, and a beautiful summer it's been. The boat is almost ready to bring home, but we're pushing up against our trip down to AZ in mid-October. If it's not done before we leave for that trip it'll have to wait until mid-November when we get back.

It really sucks.

Looking at the extended forecast for now it is not looking good that we are going to get another decent boating weather weekend. Will keep our fingers crossed & hope for the best.

No late season here. Our lake was already down 30 feet labor day weekend, or maybe the weekend after and that's all she wrote. Winterized 2 weekends ago on a sunny 80 degree Sunday. Beats doing it when it is cold and drizzly.

Dove seasoned open and we have had dove, pigeon and quail. Elk opens Monday, but I can't go until Friday. Then the next Friday its deer with our oldest, then another trip for elk.

Our late season now is focused around big game hunting. Boating here ends abruptly on labor day. The fishing boats are still heading out though.

James, Lock and Load, and please pass the salt.

Nice to be able to transition quickly from one sport to the next.

It is nice transitioning quickly however the weather has made it a little tough to transition. Very nice days.

Should've posted a few pics.

We're doing our last ride this weekend and then we'll be bringing her back home for the winter.

The fall boating season, our favorite, is just starting for us. The past weekend was outstanding with temps in the low 70's and clear skies. Unfortunately, both engines did not want to cooperate, so no cruise for us. At least we had a nice meal at a waterfront restaurant.

I need to get this fixed before we head off for an extended weekend on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay in a few weeks!

I'd give my right nostril for 'a' boating season.
2016, two 1 hour rides in the Regal.
2017, drove the Regal from the trailer to the dock in May, then back the trailer in October.
2018....

I'm with FR.
Every year I say it can't get worse, yet every year it gets worse.
2 outings this year is all, so at least it's a better season than than FR.
hopefully once more before winterization... or maybe I'll do like last year and just forget to winterize it as it sits in a garage that stays in the mid 50s over the winter time.

I asked the Admiral when you know it's time to realize it's over. I love boating too much to give up. the boat is paid for, minimal maintenance or upkeep, and when we do get out it's like a weight has been lifted.
Sucks that the kids are not available much, but we have tried going back to when we first started boating with a picnic and beer/wine for an evening, but have only been able to do that once this year.

Our plan this weekend is to go boating Saturday and Sunday, I have about 50 gallons of fuel in the boat that has been there since September that needs to get sloshed around some. Then the boat gets pulled and brought home for winter. I plan to do the dreaded W October 20 or 27th.

We had a decent weekend for boating. I had work meeting Friday morning and then made myself available by phone after my meeting. It's amazing how cell service is pretty much everywhere however I seemed to loose coverage wherever I was. We got to the lake around 8:30 pm after having to deal with traffic at two large universities that happen to be having home football games last weekend.

Saturday morning wasn't the best however at least it wasn't raining. Had a low cloud layer that eventually burned off in the afternoon.

Sunday was much better with temps in the mid 80's, we even went swimming. The initial shock quickly went away and we stayed in the water for over 30 minutes.

We have a friend that has a lake house about 10 minutes from our house. When ever either of us are at the lake we check on each other's houses. He said don't worry about it but it was good that we did stop by.

When the lake was drained for the recent hurricane, the ladder mounted on their floating dock was resting on the bottom and it pulled up some deck boards and took care of some other items as well.
[Linked Image]

We came upon a dock that had a ladder up the side and on the roof.
[Linked Image]

Thought it was odd until we went to the other side of the dock and saw this
[Linked Image]

Apparently the climb up the ladder and slide down the tube into the water. Inside the tube is corrugated so it can't be a smooth ride down.

OHA driving the boat as I was giving directions as she can often be geographically challenged. Funny thing is she use to work for one of the original internet mapping companies.
[Linked Image]

I mentioned earlier that I was having poor cell service, I really was having poor cell charging capabilities as my phone wouldn't charge in the truck or in an outlet however the phone did charge while on the boat.

OHSM has been known to sleep in almost any situation known. He climbed into the head compartment and after we placed the boat on the lift we opened up the door and found him fast asleep. The head has not been used so everything is clean.
[Linked Image]

I was noticing some weird noises when raising the boat so I took a closer look at one of my pullies, seems I have one pulley that is beginning to fail. I will replace it later this winter.

It's probably a good thing that you investigated that strange noise. Better to find out now than when the boat was on the lift and it failed.
