As many of you may know, my wife retired in mid June and we are now full time on the road.
We did a little stint in Denver where we helped my daughter and her husband with a new house.
We then camped at Dubois, Wyoming for a week in what they call dispersed or "boondock" camping. No hookups, just find a flat bit of land in the BLM or National Forest area.

We are now in Whitefish, Montana at some friends place and some time in the next week will be headed up to Canada.

Just thought I would check in and see how things are going.

Best wishes to all,

Aww Man,
we may have passed each other on the road, as the Admiral and I returned this morning from a 3 day visit to in Kalispell for property hunting.
WOuld have been cool to meet up with you somewhere, but I guess it's too late for that.
Beautiful area up there, Many more lakes than I was aware of, and lots and lots of boat dealers.

I wish I had posted sooner. We spent the other day fly fishing on the Whitefish River. So beautiful and peaceful. Hardly anyone on the river and it's flows right on the edge of the city. Very clean. Yes, lots of boats in this area. Good luck on the property hunting.

A free campsite at Clark Lake in Wyoming. We could have parked Meanderthal in the water if we had wanted to.

Geesh PH, that doesn't look peaceful at all. What if the tide comes in or what if a rogue waves comes ashore or..... Well, you know I'm just kidding. Hope you're having as much fun as it sounds like you are.

We've been to the Kalispel area four times to visit with some friends who stay at their summer palace 6 months of the year. Their lakefront house is on Flathead Lake in a semi-protected cove. I don't think I would stay in CA for the summer if I had the place either. The water is so clear, and pure. No scum on the bottom of the boat like we get here after leaving the boat in the water all summer. Lots of Californians show up each year to more than double the population. Last time we went, I took my Big Easy ski with me and skied nearly everyday. Funny thing, though. The lake has winds during the morning and later dies down to make for mirror water surface. Oh, now that I have started, I can't stop thinking about it.

Ok, it been awhile.

We spent a couple of weeks visiting our friends at Whitefish, Montana. My buddy plays guitar and we like to sit out on the front drive in the shade and do sing alongs.
They have a pond just in front of the driveway that has become a hang out for a lot of deer and the occasional bear. One day we serenaded the deer with some Jimmy Buffet tunes. Not sure if the deer enjoyed the concert or figured that with that sort of awful noise present it was sure to keep the bears away.

We left there and are now in Eureka, Montana. We made a jaunt into Canada and drove around a bit. We will stay here a couple of days and then head on.

Does anyone have a destination in the Pacific NW they would suggest?

We have been boondocking style camping. We need no hook ups, just a hallfway decent road and a area with shade. I'm running 1 or 2 generators in the morning end evening to keep the house battery charged or to run the AC if needed. We are camped near some horse trails and get frequent visitors. There is no charge for what the NPS calls "Dispersed Camping" and the local Rangers always have good places to turn you on to.

If anyone has any questions or suggestions I am all ears, wife is looking for something different to do.

Happy trails...

Very nice. Sounds like a great time.
Please tell me with all the wild life around your friend played this Buffett song.

Did y'all make it to Polebridge while near Whitefish? Just a stop on the way to the northern Areas of Glacier, and an interesting eclectic group of folks hang out there.

Which JB song? I think we were singing "Margeritaville" or however it is spelled. Did not make Polebridge...sounds like my kind of place. It's supposed to get near 100 here in Eureka, so we are going to head to higher climes, maybe towards Washington or Oregon....not sure..
EDIT:....ok, I see it now. Yeah, that would have been the perfect song......

We went to one museum in Whitefish that had just a little of everything, organized in a very odd way. One thing was located near a textile and ag display that we could not figure out. The lady at the desk said it was a popcorn popper. I think they were misled by someone.
Below is a photo of it. There is a belt driven shaft that powers it from the left hand side. It seems as if it is to drop things into near the center where that black cage rotates. Stuff then falls out of that down the front and into a chain conveyor out the side. Everything is sysmetrical so I don't think it is sorting something by size. It also has linkages down the side hooked up to a cam system that seems as if it is just to shake or agitate the equipment.

Any guesses?

We went to the Swinging Bridge. It would be more stable if they rotated it 90 degrees...

We did some "hanging Bridges" in Costa Rica in June this year. They were constructed much differently--all metal, aluminum or steel. They were obviously not crude construction--designed by at least one engineer. They still wiggled and sometimes were hard to walk without holding on.

We really like the area around Coeur d'Alene Lake and also Lake Pend O'reille. Both scenic, both heavily wooded. Not sure about camping though. When we went to Pend O' we rented a small cabin in Bayview at the south end and took a run up the lake (~31 miles) in the Whaler, had lunch then went back. Great way to spend a day.

At Coeur d'A there is a nice campground right at the north end of the lake and I'm sure you'd be able to find some dry camping areas around the lake if you checked into it.

Both lakes are clear, chilly, and beautiful. If you're in the area of Coeur d'Alene, check out Silverwood Theme Park. Great way to spend a day or two chillin with the chillins.

Well Canada was neat but we did not camp there.

We spent some time in Eureka but the smoke from nearby fires drove us to to Libby. Found some really nice camping for free a the Koocanusa dam site on the Kooteni river. Headed to Patosi Springs next...

Well we visited the Battle of Little Bighorn park today. If you ever get the chance, do it. To see the headstones of the Cavalry soldiers and Sioux warriors spread out across the landscape was moving.
