Seems that every year the season just gets started later and later.
Already into May and there appears to be no start for getting the boat out yet.
I've been in training for a new plane for the past 5 weeks, where all I did was study and work.
Now my schedule is in limbo on a daily basis until I can get out and fly for real, so we can't make any plans more than 12 hours out.
What's it like to actually get the boat out and stretch her winter legs?

I've been out with the boat--In the driveway, prepping. Spring is just breaking at 5000 feet elevation. Launch is planned for next week.

Going to go work on the boat today and may bring it home to run on the muffs tomorrow. We will see. Water is cold into June.

We took Beachcomber down the Columbia Portland (~235 miles) a couple of weeks ago to have a whole new fly bridge canvas and windows made and new batteries put in to replace the inverter batteries. It's a 2.5 day trip and includes passing through 4 sets of locks. Here's my writeup on it: Portland boat trip

I might pull the boat out of the garage today to start and wash it. Launch date will be the end of May if the weather cooperates.

Boating? THIS year? or LAST year? roflmao

The success of our business the past 3 years has effectively ended our boating hobby- temporarily...
Fathers Day 2015, the SkipperLiner started sinking. The following 4 days was spent trying to keep the boat afloat until the crane could yank it, water was too low to trailer it out-
The rest of the that summer was spent figuring out what the plan was. Then instead of fixing on the SkipperLiner, I bought & installed a brand new lower on the Party Cruiser's outboard. While I did dunk the stern to check water cooling, shifting & such, I had no prop to go for a test run. The PC still hasn't had that test run. Work got busy, and what little time off I found was spent plugging holes in the Skip. I think we got 3 or 4 rides in the Chap that summer.
January 2016 sold the Chap, got the Regal. Biz is booming. Days off in 2016: 2 days Memorial, July 3rd, 1 day over Labor day, few days around the holidays. Typical weekend was work till 3 Saturday, head to the lake, work on the Skip, sleep, work on Skip, go home around 5pm, get back to work. That didn't last long-- Right after the 4th, no spending the night, had to pick a day and get maybe 4 hours to work on the boat. We took the Regal out exactly 2 times, 1 hour each time as the weather forced us back.
2017 days off were Jan 1, 1 day memorial,. Thanksgiving, Xmas. Spent only one night at the lake, the other I think it was 6 times out were 3-4 hour trips. Just before going home over memorial, I launched the Regal, and tied it up to our dock. The only other time it got used was putting it back on the trailer in September. Bottom growth, bird crap and spiderwebs the likes I've never seen... Still needs cleaned, haven't been to the lake since mid October when I covered the Regal.

My last day off was Thanksgiving day. I even put in a few hours Xmas day. Not a day off yet this year. Right now I'm in the middle of building ski-lift operator panels, laser engraving warning labels for ski-lift towers, fabricating the labeling for crane simulators, laser etching cowbells, making horn buttons and dash parts for old Buicks and Oldsmobiles, making signage for a Solar panel installation... later I'll be laser etching some aluminum cover panels for some gov't electronic stuff, engraving throttle control sticks for helicopter flight simulators, laser etching part numbers on some very scary looking medical parts, and when all that's done I still need to shear 440 more ski lift tower signs, round the corners of 390 of them, and the roughly 350 that are engraved still need holes drilled... I'll shut down about 1:30am and start it all again at around 8am or so...

I guess there's worse problems than making too much money laugh -- but it IS beginning to drive me bat-$#!* crazy. Boat's been on the hard almost 3 years, the harbor owner wants the acreage I'm parked on to turn into RV camping spots... the hull only needs about 6 more hours of my time then it'll be ready for blasting-- I have 19 gallons of coal tar epoxy ready, a new airless sprayer to apply it with, and I'm about to order a brand new pair of new SEI Alpha 1 drives and rams before the price goes up more... I've got the Boat'n Jones bad, something's gotta give, SOON!

FR, what a horrible problem to have. You know I'm kidding. I'm pleased to hear your business is doing so well, and it looks like it will continue. Prosperity is not necessarily a bad thing. d

Now, with all the money you're hauling in, have you considered hiring out some of the work you need to be done on the boats? That would free up some of your time, ease your conscience and help you feel like you're caught up.

FR,
I'm tired just reading that.
Sounds like we all need a break, but you especially.

GFC,
How long did they say it would take to get the boat all put back together?
Will the cruise up river be much longer due to going against the current instead of with it?

Well-- I'll be paying one of my boat neighbors to weld in a new piece of steel next to the starboard fuel tank, it's the only place on the boat that's been rusting from the inside too (thanks to one of the PO's), and I'll be paying someone several boat bucks to sandblast the hull, after which I'll be verifying my repairs and such; spraying the coal tar rather than rolling it means me & the admiral will be fine as long as we can get the timing right for all the recoats... I'm going to pay someone to install the 4 new bellows needed, I'd do that myself but I can't find any decent instructions anywhere- even online videos only 'tell' you how to change them, haven't found one yet that shows anyone actually changing them! Installing the drives is cake, need to replace the gimbal bearings too, never done that before, may pay the bellow guy to do that too.

What I'm not looking forward to is, once it's all done, I have jack up each corner and move all the blocks, and fix where they've been holding up the boat! --it's not the repairing so much as the jacking, a few years ago I had a railroad tie explode under the jack while raising stern to get the boat off the trailer, I'm still glad the trailer was still there!

And then, back to doing what we were doing when it started sinking- we were in the middle of sanding carpet glue off the roof to prep it for a layer of EPDM rubber... I guess the fun never stops! wink

Boating season effectively began for me this past weekend. We were able to get out for a couple of hours on Saturday. All of the pre-season maintenance has been completed. All that is remaining is a good clean up.

None here - working on getting the lake house ready for the season. Guessing 2 more weekends of work & we should be ready to think about cleaning up the boat.

The boat is still tucked away in the garage, right now it can't leave until the admiral spreads the mulch that sits in the driveway. The weather just turned to where my son is no longer playing baseball while it's flurrying. Admiral is going to the lake house this weekend while I stay back for baseball. All is good as the water is still too cold to jump in and enjoy being in it.

Took her out Saturday to make sure everything worked and to put her on the lift for the season. Got about 5 miles down river and am feeling good because everything was going smooth. We stopped so I could take a peak in the engine compartment. And now it won’t go in gear. Reverse is fine, but no forward.

So I eventually have my wife move the shifter and I push on the linkage with the heel of my hand and she goes in gear.

Made slipping her interesting.

Sounds like you need a new lower shift cable.

I’ll humor myself and check it’s adjustment first but yeah, I think you’re probably right.

We launched in late April, but no boating since. Lots of family activities and too much work...

We took delivery of our new chap 267 a few weeks ago and finally launched this Saturday. Put 6 hours on the clock over the weekend and got her on the left. Suppose to be pushing 90 this weekend, so hopefully will be on the lake again.

That is a great boat. I'd love one. Pretty sure he went with the 6.2 @ 350 hp.
