I found this a pretty interesting article on BoatTest.com. Be aware that the test results are limited to those boats that they have tested and that are still in production. I would guess that includes only boats made by manufacturers who are closely related to the website, either in advertising or some other arrangements--Biased, of course. Enjoy. If you are the owner of one of these boats, congratulations.

BoatTest, has an extensive results database of the boats that they have tested. So, I would imagine that to come up with the results, they just went through all of their recent tests.

Interesting that the Formula 240, being the heaviest of the boats, still came in with decent top speed.

That's just too funny, I expected to see 60-something, since according to their owners, and especially those selling,
virtually every boat in this neck of the woods 'hit's 55 easy' -- roflmao

I guess it depends on which rounding off rules they use.

"No Eliminator?" Or any other "custom" boat, from anywhere.

I doubt Eliminator has even been tested by BoatTest.com. Not their style. Also, probably no financial ties between the two.

I've only hit 50+ a handful of times in my 240. I don't like pushing the engine that hard. In my view, 45-47 mph is the sweet spot for spirited boating in the 240. At that speed, it doesn't feel like the engine is working too hard, the trim is set where the prop is getting good bite and boat is riding solid.

My take is the current boats are not very fast.

+1

My current boat will do 60 mph, and my previous boat would do 58 MPH.

Also, there is a difference between going fast, and going fast with stability. A lot of boats will "chine walk" at high speeds, which can be very unnerving. There is no mention of stability or handling in this article.

However, I rarely go above 40, and would gladly trade top end speed for improvements in hole shot and/or mid-range performance. In fact, I am wondering if I should drop down in pitch on my current boat - she is slow on the hole shot, but does great once on plane.

Speaking of duoprops. A former neighbor has an older 25' Formula bow rider and he replaced his B3 drive with a B1 drive and picked up a few MPHs on the top end. His top speed is a little over 60 mph with a high hour 454 Merc, up from the mid 50's with the B3. Maybe the fact that more boats come with duoprops vs single props is why newer boats are slower.

Think bravo 1's are more for go fast boats looking for top end where bravo 3's have better hole shot.

I think bravo III is for under 65 mph boats. But yes, you will loose top speed with a Bravo III particularly over 50mph. I'm sure the counter rotating props cost a fewHP, plus additional drag. The advantage is getting on plane, slow speed handling, and mid range performance for heavier boats. I don't think you ever see a BIII on performance oriented boats.

Have heard nothing but good reviews from people who have purchased the 4 blade Ron Hill props.

X3. Baby Blue will touch 60 at sea level. She used to do 63, but the addition of the tower, swim platform and second battery took away a little speed. That's with a duoprop spinning F6s.
