Find something for the wife online on Wednesday afternoon. Ship to store...
I can get it Dec 27 via free shipping-
or I can pay extra for Fedex overnight- ship Thursday, get Friday.

Here's the tracking page. There's no plausible excuse for this, I AM going to ask for my money back...

FR, I'd as for my shipping costs to be refunded, but keep in mind that you get more flies with honey.

FEDEX, UPS, USPO all have been excellent over the years. When you consider the billions of packages they handle every year, there are bound to be a few screw ups.

Just think of it as you were blessed this year by the Screw Up Fairy!

In Utah in the past 14 months we've had TWO major Fedex truck accidents:

https://www.ksl.com/?sid=41905784&nid=148
https://www.ksl.com/?sid=42942531&nid=148

And we've had crappy weather all across the country, making planes late. So, I get how delays or just plain no-shows happen.

But- my package arrived in town before 2pm on Friday, and scanned THREE TIMES -- but never put on a delivery truck...?

And I was blessed LAST Xmas by Home Depot's screwup fairy, my Dec 5 delivery showing up in the middle of January...

But all my whining said, I do agree it IS mind boggling the amount of the stuff that DOES get properly delivered by all the shippers...

I have had mostly good experiences with all of the carriers, and I find it amazing how quickly they deliver packages these days (especially when sourced from Amazon). Although we had to play UPS driver the other day. For some reason, the UPS driver left us 6 additional packages that were not ours (they were for 3 different houses several blocks away). Given the likelihood that the packages contained Christmas gifts, we hand delivered them instead of sending them back to the UPS so they would arrive in time for the holiday. The 3 houses were all close together on the same street, so I am assuming the driver had these laid out for the next stops, and grabbed extra packages when stopping at our house. This is the first snafu with UPS that I can recall. Delivery issues with the USPS are a common occurrence in our neighborhood, and on many days, our mail is delivered well past 5:00 PM (it used to come mid day). I assume the issues are with the USPS are due to budget cuts (they have closed our post office, so we are no served by the next town over).

Does anyone still tip their mailman at Christmas?

Never heard of that, so my answer would be " no".

Though I do "tip" a few organizations every year. This year we bought some "Bourbon Barrel Cakes" from Kentucky Woods. I delivered them to the police department, the boat yard that does such a good job of taking care of Beachcomber, and the Port of Kennewick who owns the marina where we keep the boat. Here's the website of the company I order them from.

Back growing up in LA, we had a regular mail carrier "Johnny" who delivered our mail daily for years.

The neighborhood had a relationship with him, and I do recall him getting gifts, or a stop in a neighbors garage hangout during luch for some 'egg nogg' wink.

In my current experience, our mail carriers seem to turnover/change more often, so no relationship established.

I think our current consistent/regular mail carrier has a ponytail, is all I know about him. Thinking more, my wifd did mention this week that she had talked to him for a bit, and his family are all alumni of one of the local but outskirts High Schools that my kids attend.

Maybe we will tip or gift him next year, if he hangs around for a while....

At home & work we are always having different carriers & the time of delivery also varies with the variety of carriers.

Where we live in WA there is a community mail box that has about 24 boxes for personal mail and two larger boxes for packages. We very seldom ever see the mail truck let alone the mailman.

It showed up at the store yesterday, so 'extended Christmas'-- otherwise, the earth's still spinning, hell's still pretty hot... wink

I don't tip my postal delivery person however I have given my snow plow person a bottle of Coke one snowy day and told him to come back after his shift for something harder but he never did. As a result I had snow removed right up to my curb in front of the house. My street is plowed with a pick-up truck.

Our municipal plow driver always gets cookies, warm pie, or whatever happens to be coming out of the oven the day of the storm. And similar to OH, the plow tends to throw snow away from our driveway on the way by. Win win.
