Well it's winter and that means that many of us are sitting here glumly staring at our 'puter screens while visions of our shrink wrapped boats are dancing sadly in our heads. One fun thing that does come out of the winter doldrums is that some interesting topics hit the boating forums and that lead to some interesting discussions.

So here's my question. And before I get to it, I want you to know that this question has global implications. It's extremely important and I want you to give a lot of thought to your writings that justify your answer.

So here's the question:

When you put a new roll of toilet paper on the toilet paper holder, should it unroll from the front or the back?

Please make a selection and justify your answer below.

Should the toilet paper unroll toward the front or the back?

Since this is such an important issue I can't make a proper vote until I understand fully what you mean by unrolling toward the front or back.
Does this mean the loose end is hanging toward the wall, or toward the room?

For reasons unknown to me, we got a puppy over the summer. As a result, we have to smash the TP roll, making the center oblong and preventing it from free wheeling. This is necessary because if the end hangs low, the puppy will grab it with her teeth and will run through the house with it.

PH -Is this why you ask about felines?

Cats will bat at the roll of TP and unroll it all down if placed with the paper hanging away from the wall. Not as likely to do it if placed with free end against the wall.

I love to collect dead spiders, they're my favorite type.....then unroll a couple of feet of TP and reroll it with a little "gift" inside. This works better when you hang the paper with the loose end towards the wall. As the pull some paper out the spider makes a nice little "enter stage right" performance. Not sure which is funnier...the shriek or

Justi, I should have clarified that. If the end is hanging AWAY from the wall, that is considered to be the FRONT of the roll.

Now, for those who might need a little more clarification, if the end of the roll is hanging TOWARD the wall that is considered the BACK of the roll.

For those of you who live in the south and are still using Sears catalogs just ignore this because it would take too long to 'splain what this poll is about.

PH, I like that idea. May I have your permission to use it? At my own risk, naturally. roflmao

Thanks for the clarification. I can now cast my very important vote.
Since I have a dog who is afraid of the bathroom, since that's where her baths are, we can hang it the proper way.... oooops I'm a guy so it just shows up that way.
How else are you supposed to put that very stylish triangle fold on the first square and have it show?

Ummmmm,, I don't think I'll share the results of the "test" but might let on that it's successful in providing a bit of a fright. Anything more than that would be TMI.

I was at a relatives house yesterday for Christmas and was shocked to find the TP hanging from the back. I was going to say something, but the Admiral instructed me to keep quiet. ouch

Here are a few more save the world questions of mystery/etiquette/world of wonder:

- Toilet lid open or fully closed after use?
- Which side of the ironing board do you iron on; Flat side or pointy side?
- Do you clean the kitchen/dishes while you cook or after you cook/done?
- Do you rise at first alarm or are you a snoozer?
- Can you roll your tongue?
- Do you consciously save room for desert, or do you fill up on the meal, and have to wait for desert?
- Which shoe do you put on first?

Mysteries of the world......

Closed, Slow close lids make this easier to do, just nudge it down and it closes without slamming.
Pay the laundry mat,
Mostly when I'm done, but a very few items get cleaned as I go.
at Home, Snooze once or twice. On the road... Having prepped the coffee maker the night before, I hit snooze, get up to turn on the coffee pot, then get up when the alarm goes off again, cause the coffee is now ready.
Yes
I prefer the meal to desert, and too cheap to pay for desert at a restaurant so I fill up and don't worry about my lack of a sweet tooth.
The first one I pick up.

- Toilet lid open or fully closed after use? OPEN
- Which side of the ironing board do you iron on; Flat side or pointy side? POINTY END FOR SHIRT SLEEVES AND COLLAR AREAS
- Do you clean the kitchen/dishes while you cook or after you cook/done? DEPENDS ON WHAT I'M COOKING BUT USUALLY AFTER
- Do you rise at first alarm or are you a snoozer? FIRST ALARM OR SOMETIMES AWAKE BEFORE THE ALARM
- Can you roll your tongue? I HAD TO TRY IT TO SEE, BUT YES, I CAN ROLL IT
- Do you consciously save room for desert, or do you fill up on the meal, and have to wait for desert? I WAIT FOR DESERT.
- Which shoe do you put on first? LEFT FIRST UNLESS I PUT ON THE RIGHT FIRST BUT USUALLY THE LEFT

TP-- most TP is embossed/debossed these days. And most TP is DEbossed on top, with the underside EMbossed, meaning the top of the paper has hollow depressions, and the underside has all the raised impressions. So the top of the paper quite smooth, like say a cotton sheet, while the bottom is more like a terry towel. For the intended purpose here, which would do a better job?

SO, if you pull the paper from the top (front hanging), as you fold it, the embossed side will be facing outward, ready to scrub- but if you pull the paper from the back and fold, the debossed side will be facing outward...

Ergo, since my TP IS embossed and I want it to work, it hangs from the front smile

2nd questions:
- Toilet lid open or fully closed after use?
always closed. If anyone complains at THAT, I tell them they're lazy
- Which side of the ironing board do you iron on; Flat side or pointy side?
usually the pointy side
- Do you clean the kitchen/dishes while you cook or after you cook/done?
both, but usually after
- Do you rise at first alarm or are you a snoozer?
haven't used an alarm in years, but I watch some news once I wake up
- Can you roll your tongue?
yes
- Do you consciously save room for desert, or do you fill up on the meal, and have to wait for desert?
desert is rare, so I just fill up
- Which shoe do you put on first?
the first one I grab
-addendum- Which leg goes in first?
always the right wink

https://www.cnet.com/news/why-an-1891-toilet-paper-patent-is-all-over-facebook/
The 1891 patent clearly shows that TP is designed to be pulled from "over the top", aka "Unroll from the front", aka "the end hanging away from the wall".
