You know . . . many of us frequent many of the boating forums . . . and you just set the BS alarm off.

cowboysfan, perhaps we would be less doubtful if you introduced yourself, said what school you went to, what class this is for, and maybe a contact number so we could verify what you are asking for.

That would likely get you a lot more valid responses.

Seems a little off for post #1. Think we had one very similar some years ago they never went anywhere.

If this is the same guy that has been posting these types of polls/questions on iBoats and THT, which I think it is . . .

Oct 10th - on THT was doing research on fiberglass work/repair, supposedly for a friend who was starting a business . . . has also asked questions about frequency of waxing idn

Oct 20th - on iBoats, stated he was a new boater with a bowrider, and was wondering about the chances of having to do fiberglass repairs, etc . . .

Here on BABC, he is doing a college project. . . .

Assuming it is the same person, since the line of questioning is the same, it would be nice to know real story behind the curtain.

looks like simple market research to me - which is all fine and dandy as long as you're up front about it.

Maybe there is a way to set up the site so new members with 1 post can't start a new topic.Maybe change number of post required to 25 or more.

Why, what's the issue with new members starting a topic?

I don't think restriction on new member activity, such as not starting a new post is going to work out. A restriction such as that will promote thread hi-jacking by new members. I know some forums restrict uploading photos or creating polls for new members until they get a few posts under their belt.

This issue is of significance only because the same inquiry has been posted on multiple boat forums in a somewhat surreptitious manner.

I would be opposed to no-posting limits on new members. C'mon guys, we're here to provide aid and information to boaters whether they have been a boater for years or just got their first boat and have some questions.

In a situation like this one perhaps Admin could send new members and email asking them for some background information before letting the post appear. If a person who is legitimately seeking information (market survey, etc.) he would be willing to provide the requested info. Lacking that, sorry, but no post.
