Can imagine that would be over whelming. That is a huge lock.

Any more when we go in there it's not overwhelming like it was for many years. I've learned a few secrets about making the lockage less stressful and those all help. It's relatively easy to do the lockage when the wind isn't blowing but I've been inside the lock when the wind was blowing so hard it crashed a couple of the boats into the lock wall. There's nothing pleasant about the sound of fiberglass crunching when it comes into contact with concrete.

For the first time ever, I plan to take my boat for at least one more cruise despite having already Winterized. It's supposed to be 75 and sunny tomorrow and from what I've read and seen on facebook, the foliage has really popped on my favorite lake. I'll be wasting about 12 bucks worth of anti-freeze and about 30 minutes of labor, no big deal. My football team is not playing until 8:30 too, so that makes it an even easier decision. Will add a few more hours to my stats.

Dave, you will need to change the outdrive fluid again as water can and does get mixed into it.

"....the foliage has really popped...."

We've only been here in Boston since Tuesday. Since then, The colors are really beautiful.

"Dave, you will need to change the outdrive fluid again as water can and does get mixed into it."
WW, i know your suggestion is to protect everything in case water gets in and freezes. But, are you saying that there may be a leak that formed from one day's running that wasn't there before?

We made a quick trip to Alton NH today for some house maintenance. I'd say the foliage is at or near peak. It was a great day to do almost anything. Unfortunately for us, the boat remained at home winterized.

You picked a nice time of year to be in Boston . . . the foliage has really come out in the past week. Seems like a bit later than normal though . . .

I doubt Dave would be changing the outdrive oil . . . water would not get in there unless there were known issues, but maybe I missed him posting about it.

I must admit it's been awhile since I had my outdrive apart. But I can remember seeing a rubber seal hugging the shaft that separates the oil from the water with a spring around the seal to keep it snug against the shaft as it spins. I don't remember the configuration and exactly what I was looking at, but If you wanted to see how oil can leak out (or water leak in), put a 75 to 90 weight lube in your outdrive. You will see oil sheen in the water as the lube leaks - I don't recommend using anything but 90 weight but I made that mistake and I lost outdrive lube. I'm sure there was some water mixed in the outdrive.

I'm not saying a lot of water will get in, I'm just saying it isn't worth the worry. What can I say, I'm a worrywart Waterwing.

Sadly, my wife was ill on Sunday and we never took the boat out. I had not changed the out drive oil yet, but if I had, I would have left it in the drive for the Winter and all next season. I don't have any worrisome leaks.

Did you buy a place on the lake? I always assumed you slipped the boat at a marina...

No worries needed. The shaft seals will last a long time. . . I replaced mine a few years ago . . . The original ones were about 18 years old and had 800 hours on them.

We did buy a place. Unfortunately it's not on the water but we're getting closer! We're less than 10 minutes from the Alton Bay ramps. Although it's not on the water it still gives us a lot of options and opportunities we didn't have before. It's part of some short and long term planning that gets us in the area we may spend more time in in the future. Of course the plan is always subject to change......

Good for you. Have you checked out Champlain yet? That lake changed our plans a bit...

We haven't been to Champlain in years. Maybe it's time to revisit and complicate the plan........:)

We did our second vacation on Champlain in two years and have fallen in love with it. If you get away from Burlington, lake-front real estate is very reasonable, especially on the NY side. I work from home, so I can live anywhere that has internet or decent mobile data coverage. The only things keeping us where we are right now are family and my wife's excellent health-care benefits. We could sell our house today and buy a small lake front home on Champlain AND a used live-aboard capable yacht to park out front. We could spend the warm half of the year in the house and the cold half cruising on, to, and from the southeast coastal waters. It's extremely tempting, especially since we could easily get by with a three season cottage since we would not need to heat the place or access it in the Winter. Realistically, we'd haul the yacht for the Summer and use our current boat to cruise to and from the house.

I'm not sure what the stat's were for my brother's Grady 305, other than the world-class repair bill for the season, but today was haul-out day. Here is a video of the haul-out.

Ted, there is no video that I can see...

We just got back from a great weekend on the boat at St Michaels, MD. WayWeGo gets hauled in two weeks so the season is over early for us.
