I never wanted one as it is another thing to fail or maintain. My last boat (22') had the hydraulic assist rams which worked great. However, the hatch on the current boat is really heavy - it definitely needs the electric hatch opener.

Should my Brother in Law remove the batteries when this one is put into winter storage?

Kinda thinking the Insurance company isn't going to worry about doing a whole lot to it.
One of the partners was tied off to the beach with 4 anchors when a really bad thunderstorm rolled through. He started the engines and tried keeping her on the beach, but as you can tell, no luck.
Minor injuries, and about $300K worth of repairs to a boat that isn't worth that much.
Happened in mid September and at least three houseboats were tipped over, and multiple other boats and PWCs sunk as the thunderstorm moved at least 80 miles up the lake.
My sister and family were not on the lake at the time, so only had to salvage their stuff after the boat was returned to the marina.

They didn't get any close ups of the underside, but what you can see there are colonies of Zebra and Quagga mussels.

Wow that had to be quite a storm to do that. Can't imagine how scary that would have been.

OK, Back to the battery portion of this discusion. A friend bought a battery charger with a bunch of settings (Flooded, AGM. Deep Cycle). He bought the charger for the deep cycle setting. He uses flooded deep cycle batteries and someboy else told him that flooded deep cycle batteries should be charged using a "standard" flooded battery setting regardless of being either deep cycle or a starter battery Does anybody out there know the answer? I don't!

First read and understand the instructions that came with the charger. I would also recommend a quick call to the battery mfr and the charger mfr if you still have a question.

OK some addtional explanation. The selection on the charger indicated the same selection for AGM and Deep Cycle. There were no issues with his batteries. I told him to call or email the company that made the charger (Schumacher) and see what they say. I asked him to let me know what the manf. said. I'll post the answer if and when I find out.

Never got an answer from my friend. As it turns out the 6A cliplight charger that I've used for years and years, bit the dust. I debated various chargers. In the end I purchased an inexpesive 4A three stage charger from Harbor Freight. It has setings for flooded, AGM and GEL. In addition if the battery voltage has dropped below 10.5V the charger will enter a cycle to desulfate the battery. I used it to charge 3 group 27 deep cycle batteries (one at a time) for the Bayliner 289 and the starter battey for the small 15ft pontoon boat. Seemed to work OK

The Bayiner hit the water 1 week ago. I got one small ride in. The weather predictions for this coming week end are not wonderful, but I have my fingers crossed.
