Not sure if all of you saw on World news, but here in Illinois we got clobbered with storms and as a result, floods.
Here is my lake house. Before and after image. Luckily no damage

That is crazy. Have a friend that lives on Pistakee & the water is 3/4 up his lawn. When do they expect it to get back to be boatable?

Bet Frantically relaxing would be interested in some extra water.

Capkev, I think by this weekend the lakes will go from CLOSED to No Wake. Full boating not until next week.

Dang, I'd heard about the rains and flooding but never imagined it would be like that.

Is all of IL affected? I have a bro in law who lives in Lake Forest. Haven't heard from him but he's quite a ways above the lake.

GFC,
Lake Forest is North and part of the heavy rains. But since they aren't by sizable lakes or rivers, they weren't impacted as much. Lake Michigan doesn't count.

Anybody notice the importance of those tall posts on the seawall? Without it, those boats would be in my backyard.

Was traveling around the area last week. Sorry to see what you guys are dealing with. I remember this happening years back when we had our boat on the Chain.

We have had 3 "100 year floods" recently. 2008, 2013 and 2017.
Does that make me over 300 years old?

My only pain is boating is closed.

We didn't get near the rain that you all got up there, but we are going to get all the water. The river is rising as we speak.

WW - I believe we have had around 3 "100 year floods" between 1985 and 2000 as well. Do you recall the Naperville flood that was around 1995 or so?

Glad to year your lake house was not affected. The good news is that you know your lake house is not likely to ever go under water.

Dock, I feel real good about how the house will most likely always be ok. When we were looking for lake property, flooding was in the back of our minds and played a part in home selection. Everything played out perfectly. Even those posts that kept the boats from landing in the back yard was a benefit.

When I see what many of the neighbors went through, I feel real good.

Kind of surprised to see boats still in the water. Thought most people pull them out before the lake gets that high.

The waters may have risen so fast that the owners could not move them before the lake closed and the ramps went under water (the ramps and parking lot at Ben Watts marina are completely flooded and barricaded off).

Dock is right. The agency closed the lakes immediately. A day later they posted that homeowners are allowed to carefully idle their boats to the ramp. By that time the local ramps where all sandbagged and closed. There was a public one I could have gone to but felt it was too risky to go that far as debris was floating around as well as run-away boats. Plus if you ran into trouble (engine died), there is no one to 'rescue' you. Here the water level graph... look how quickly it went up by 4'

It's only about 10" above norm. For some reason the lake is still closed. I'm not sure why. Should at least move to " No wake". Maybe they are patrolling the lakes looking for floating land mass, runaway docks, boat or large debris before opening.

Wow, it seems like the water levels dropped quickly. I was thinking it might take several more weeks.

I just read a letter on Fox agency. Opening up the waterways is now in the hands of Illinois department of Natural Resources. They have been scanning the lakes for large debris this past week and are doing water tests to ensure it's safe. Looks like it will be open this weekend unless something dramatic happens.

Dock, quickly? only 4" a day.
