I bought a very clean 2006 Four Winns Horizon with a bad Volvo 5 Ltr. I had a local mechanic put in a Volvo rebuilt. I ran it up shortly a few times on land. Yesterday's maiden voyage I lost Electrical gauges after about an hour of moderate & varied cruising for break in. The biggest problem was that when I removed the key it kept running at idle and I needed to pull the coil wire off the cap to shut it down. I let it cool for an hour, same issue.

no gauges, removed the key.
Sounds like a bad key switch to me.

Welcome aboard.
Four WInns makes nice boats.

Justi nailed it IMO. The key switch, when in the ON position powers up the gauges. There could be a fault in the switch that, even in the ON position, fails to power up the gauges.

That should be an easy fix to replace the key switch. If that doesn't work, if you're not a mekanyk (I can't even spell "Mechanic" so I guess I ain't one!) take it back to your guy and have him fix it.

Technically, since it worked when run in the driveway, I agree it is the switch. But, verify wire connections to the switch first. After that, I wouldn't hesitate taking it back to the guy who worked on, either.

Maybe have the mechanic re-visit the installation and wiring.
