Well, I almost met God a few weeks back. Went to ER one night with horrible abdominal pain that radiated through my back and around my kidneys.

Was admitted to the hospital, got a CT scan and other tests.

That's all I remember until over a week later.

They took me into surgery where I had a perforated bowel and other associated issues. With the infection, it led to multiple other failures or issues of body systems.

It took a few days for them to stabilize me, but they did.

I spent a couple weeks in the ICU and remain in the hospital. Hopefully soon I'll move on to rehab as the next step. Lots of recovery ahead.

Obviously can't thank my wife enough for dealing with this mess from day 1.

Wow!....I'm sure boating is the least of your worries. So glad to hear you pulled through. Hope the recovery goes well. Really makes one appreciate the here and now.

What causes a perforated bowel?...or do they know?

Sorry to hear of the troubles, but very glad you are around to give an account of them.

Thoughts and prayers are with you. Stay positive. "Mind over matter" is a powerful force.

In my case, I ended up with a twist in the intestine which allowed the blockage to happen. I also lost a bit of an intestine .

Well, James, we always knew you were full of it. If you lost some colon you just lost some of your ability to store it. Just kidding.

Loss of the rest of the season is a small price to pay for a complete and full recovery.

Best wishes for a speedy, and good recovery, not even a nice thing to have to endure...

Many years ago when my sister worked with us, dad was in his room watching TV, my sister went in to tell him lunch was ready. He was sweating, looked confused and was the same color as Ted's boat above. Call ambulance...he was very low on blood and they found several feet of his intestines leaking like a soaker hose. Damn scary.

Got two new drains yesterday. A bit of a hiccup, but a necessity to manage infection. Probably keep me in the hospital a few extra days.

Walked about 60' today. Try to go a few more feet each day.

Today's was our anniversary. At least we got to celebrate it.

Fishing season over too?

Take care of yourself. I am sure you are going over in your head what is really important in life, or you probably already knew.

I might be able to fish in the fall. I drew a deer tag which I won't be able to use which sucks.

Transferring to rehab today which is a positive move.
