We had to come down to Phoenix to allow the company that is doing our bathroom remodel time to finish the job so they could get paid. The bought the airline tickets and the round trip rental cars so I'm not out of pocket for the trip.

But we sure could have picked a better time to plan it. Depending on which weather report you get, it's either going to be 119* or 120* in the next few days.

We're headed back to WA on Tuesday. Can ya believe we're ready to leave?

We just got back home from running some errands. 111* and it really did not feel horrible. It definitely is worth driving around in a parking lot to find one of the few parking places in the shade.

If you have to park in the sun, when you come back to the car it's definitely HOT HOT HOT inside the car.

The West is extremely hot, except the coast, but even there it is a lot hotter than the June normal.

The coast is hotter than normal this time of the year. The air conditioning never cut in though. A nice 73 inside. I insulated all the outside walls and attic with R30 a few years ago.

My son and family are taking a well-deserved driving vacation next week, including Yosemite. Apparently, the extreme heat is causing the record snow to melt so fast that the rivers can't contain themselves. Not the first time, but many of the river-side campgrounds are closed.

We just came back from a little drive. 118* on the car thermometer, and that's usually pretty accurate.

Just standing outside in the sun is HOT, even without moving around.

Our A/C has been running all day, every day. It finally shuts down about 11:00 at night, but the coolest temp last night was 80*. The night time temp tonight is supposed to drop.....to 79*.

Hard to shovel heat. No salt on the roads, AC is high, but not as high as Fall winter and Spring heat. Personally, I'll stay just where I am.

I can kind of see living there now with all that Phoenix has to offer, and with air Conditioning.
What I can't understand is why it was ever settled before air conditioning.
I also don't understand why there are so many Festivals, golf Tournaments, tennis tournaments, and conventions in Palm Springs in the summer. In the winter it's wonderful. in the summer it's unbearable outside.
General Motors moved their Hot weather testing facility from Phoenix to between Palm Springs and Yuma a bunch of years ago because it stays hotter longer.

You should have been there in 1990 for the highest recorded temp of 122*, the previous day was only 120*. That was fun.

Just curious GFC but when you gone do you leave the ac on? Ever have any heat related issues while gone?

I hear what you're saying, but I'll stick with our WA climate, thank you very much. In most years we get a couple of weeks of temps that are around 100*. That's bearable. In most winters we get a couple of snowfalls of about 2-3", but if you want to shovel it you have to hurry or it will melt before you get to it.

" In the winter it's wonderful. in the summer it's unbearable outside. "
Hence the term "Snowbird". We are part of that flock. I love it down here in the late fall to early spring season. I wake up every day knowing it's going to be in the 70's or 80's, with blue skies and light winds.

"You should have been there in 1990 for the highest recorded temp of 122*, the previous day was only 120*. That was fun."
Sorry Joe, but I'm not the kind of guy who tends toward masochism. Your idea of fun and my idea of fun are VASTLY different.

"Just curious GFC but when you gone do you leave the ac on? Ever have any heat related issues while gone?" We leave the A/C on and set the temp at 85*. Several years ago when the market was at the bottom we bought a house in Surprise, AZ with the idea of flipping it when the market came back up. I left the A/C set at 90* and when we came back down in the fall there was a candle that was about 8" in diameter that had melted, leaned over and left a wax stain on the stone mantle of the fireplace. Never did get the stain out before we sold the house.

I now leave the A/C in the condo set at 85* when we leave. No problems so far. Our electric bills are probably a little higher with it at 85* but I would rather avoid any big issues.

We're headed back to WA tomorrow morning. I'm excited because next weekend we're headed out on the boat. Umatilla, OR is having their annual Umatilla Landing Days. We'll leave on Friday and return Sunday. The weather is supposed to be in the mid-80's with very light winds.

That will be a welcome change from what we ran into on Friday of last year:

Not too different from Payson or Prescott AZ then?

Kelly, I think we're more like those two except that we're almost a mile lower in elevation. Our elevation is around 350', not a mile or more high.

In the summer we get a week or two where temps climb up a bit over 100* but not usually as high as 105*. In the winter we usually get a couple of snowfalls of 2"-3" but if you want to shovel you have to hurry before it melts.

This past winter was a doozy up there. Cold, snowed a lot. I was down here and missed most of it. GW went home to be around her mother (Mom's 101 years old!) so was up there and griped all winter about how nasty it was. It's a good thing we were not talking on a phone where she could see me smiling whilst she was griping.

I bought a dozen eggs yesterday. Not because I thought we'd eat them up before we leave but I wanted to see if an egg would cook on the sidewalk when it's ~120* outside.

I'll keep y'all posted.
