After 2 years without a boat, we are back in the water. Our first boat, 25 years ago, was a cuddy cabin, and we went that route again. Pictures below to show it happened (GFC) laugh

2004 Chaparral 235ssi, 350Mag, Alpha One.

That is all for now. See you on the water !! d

Congrats! Our Chaparral experience was excellent and I have heard great things about the 235.

Congrats on the new boat. Once boating gets in your blood it is difficult to get out. Looks like a nice boat. Big fan of Chapparrals.

The cuddy is an interesting choice, do you figure on doing any overnights with it?

Glad to see you wet again!

Yep. Already have 3 weekends with reserved slips booked, so far....
That is why we bought it, we can trailer anywhere we want, and stay on it if we chose. Or just launch it, and stay in the camper. Logistic challenge, but we have a plan.

Capn:
Congrats. Great looking boat. With that power train, surely, it will do a great job.
1. Any idea what the pitch is on the prop?
2. Top speed?
3. Time to get on-plane?
4. How much does the boat weigh with full fuel and gear?
5. What is your tow vehicle?

Glad to have you back in the family. I've always enjoyed your posts and it looks like maybe you will be back in the fold for awhile.

Thanks Jack. I can answer a few of your questions.
The prop is a 14-1/2 x 19p Mercury SS
Top speed should be around 50mph.
Have not measured time to plane yet. 22 deg. deadrise hull.
Not sure of weight fully loaded. 4,510 lbs. dry. She holds 73 gallons of fuel, 10 gallons of water.
Towing with 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (Hemi V8)

Only been out once on sea trial Saturday. The bay had 35mph winds, and 3-4 footers. So WOT was hard to keep for long. Will report back once we get some hours in it. I'm probably going to replace the prop with a Ballistic 14-3/4 x 17p 3 blade SS.

Nice looking boat Capn. And again, welcome back.

I've always liked Chaps. They're a stout boat, ride well and take chop well as you probably saw on your sea trial. A lot of that ride comes from the deep-V and the hard chine. IMO those are good qualities to have on a boat.

Thanks for the stats, Capn. It's always fun to compare.

When we bought our Monterey, it had an 19p aluminum. The dealer had an extra stainless Volvo Penta 17p and I decided to buy it (cheap of course) because of our operation at 5000 foot elevation. It works extremely well. Have hit a speedometer read of 52 mph at 5200 rpm. 4 second time to plane, but it pulls continuously even before plane. I am a big old fogy, and it works well for me.

One of these days before the boat is put into winter storage, I need to take it for a weigh-in. 55-gallon fuel tank won't be full, though.

One more question about your boat. The model is 235. Does that imply this is a 23-foot hull, or does that number include the ESP? You might remember that Monterey's first version our 224FS was 214FS. The hull hadn't changed, but in the later models, the ESP was standard, and for transport purposes, they needed to add the extra foot to the equation. Hence the model number change--good for the Marketing Department, as well.

Per Chaparral spec sheet from 2004:
235ssi Length = 22ft.10 in.
LOA (w/swimplatform) = 24ft. 11 in.

Well, with the meltdown of Photobucket, looks like a pretty dull photo grouping at the beginning of this post.

So, from todays' "Who Cares" file, pictures that hopefully will last for more than a few weeks. Been at 3 different marina's for 8 overnight stays on the boat. Not bad for only a little over a month since we bought it. This boat seems to be the best fit for us of all 5 we have owned.

This is from Lake Charlevoix this past Friday.

Torch Lake for 9 days is the next adventure.

Enjoy your boating season all !! thumb
