We've talked about the California drought, but I had no idea it is so bad. Here is an article from the Los Angeles Times that shows and explains some of the things that are happening. It appears this is the first of several.

That is scary how bad those lakes are. Hard to imagine when we just broke the record for rainfall for the month of June in Chicago. July has been more of the same.

Very scary and sad.....sure wish we could have sent some of the recent flood waters Oklahoma and Texas had that way.....

That is very sad to see. I bet one could find some great bargains on houseboats and cruisers in CA right now.

What lakes? I don't see any lakes in those pictures idn laugh

One has to wonder with 4 years of drought, is this the new norm? If so, how will the boating population adjust?

Have you looked close at my trailer? Single 25k# axle, four 15" Double Coin tires with a total rating of 23k#-- the trailer weighs about 8k# and I'm putting a 32k# boat on it! Ok for yard duty, but whatever I could drag down a highway with it won't be big enough for us! (not that we're spoiled or anything)
wink

When the crane was done I had to pull the boat with my pickup truck over 500' down the rutty dike road to where it is now. I'm still looking to see if someone has pics or a video of that!

And I wish California AND us would get drenched, we really need the water. And on a 'material things' note, if California's houseboats get useful again, those and mine will go up in value, at least a little bit.

"Pine Flat Lake?"

Lake McClure for the deep one with the fish boat. The picture of "The Pines" is Bass Lake.

Are you suggesting that the next major earthquake will leave you with waterfront property?

That's what happens when you build a couple megatropolises in a desert. 4 years so and they were full. I have a pic of us on lake oroville which is down a couple hundred feet. I heard that this year was the wettest year on record for the US. Just not in the west.

It's RAINING HAAAArrrrddd here! Been going on for about an hour. Problem is that it is sporadic. Caused by the leftovers of a hurricane down Mexico way. Don't know how much we have had, but probably less than 0.25 inch. But, it all helps, even if a little.

We had planned to be out on the coast again this past weekend, but weather was not ideal.
Instead we watched all the rain coming down and flowing out to the sea.

Would be nice if money was spent on infistructure toward better water collection and storage.

But soon we'll have a high speed train we could use to ride up to SF for a drink of water. So there's that.

That's so cute. Clearly you are an optimist. San Fran doesn't have any water either.

Our storage system was designed in the 50's and before. At that time there was lots of snow pack an the reservoirs only needed to regulate the flow from May until September so it could be used throughout the year.

Now, we get more in the form of rain than snow so we need more surface and groundwater storage facilities.

BTW, the people voted to fund High Speed Rail a couple of years ago so it is being done now. The state cannot take the money from those funds to do other things.

The people also voted for water bonds last year so the work on that should start pretty soon.
