Well...can't say I could have asked for our first weekend to go any better. Kids slept well (8 am Saturday and 8:45 am on Sunday), we all made some nice friends, I backed into the slip twice and looked like a seasoned pro and we were all upset when it was time to leave this afternoon.

Saturday afternoon we anchored in Lake Michigan about 300 yards off the beach in about 5' of water. One of the big cons of this boat is we can't get as close to the beach as we are used to. But my kids were troopers. They all dawned their life jackets and swam into the beach...and then out again later in the day. I did figure out that the Chene anchor that I had read great reviews so I bought one for a back anchor do not work that well. Wind was light and it still would not stay put.

We are going to make some modifications to the canvas and stereo stopped working this morning but overall she is just a great vessel to drive, dock (lovin' me the inboards) and spend a lot of time on as a family.

I did not get many pictures as we did a lot of organizing, cleaning and swimming. But here are the three I did get...

Name finally complete

Lake Michigan was pretty docile...

Happy lunch crew...

Nice, glad to hear it all went well. Looks like great family fun to me. Love your new decal work too. Are those water drops from BoatingABC?

Looks like a great weekend, congratulations!

Just don't change boats to often! Transom may get to narrow to add all the g's.........

Dogggggggg, you're going to either have to stop buying boats or use a smaller font for the future ones!

I'm glad the kids took to it so well. It sounds like you're getting the hang of backing it into the slip. Is it going easier than you imagined?

Thanks for sharing your weekend with us.

Wing - no, those are a custom created drop by yours truly. Have been on all fours of our boats so I could not possibly go without.

GFC - easier? Yes and no. I have obviously driven my dad's boats to a point ( he is a control freak). But once I figured out that the use of some throttle as well as the transmissions is a good thing I was really able to get my head and hands around how the boat reachts in different situations. My hardest thing is figuring out where the rudders are. There is no indicator.

Awesome. I'm surprised to hear the Chene didn't work for you, but maybe there's a point at which a boat is just too heavy for that design.

old trick....make sure your rudders are centered and mark your wheel at 12 o'clock with some tape. use the tape as reference when it's time to dock. it isn't a perfect system, but it's cheap and pretty effective.

Mike - I know you are one who really likes it and based my purchase decision off of. I liked the idea as it is more compact than other and figured it would be great to take up a little less room in the transom locker. Boat is about 14,000 dry, and after the anchor slipped for about the third time we were in deeper water. Wind was only about 7 or 8 knots. But pulling a boat that big in chest deep water back against the wind was tough cry.

Makes my back & knees hurt just to think of doing that. I'm glad I didn't recommend a $400 anchor that failed!

An easy 'throttle thing' to visualize is to think of your hands on the handle of a shopping cart. If you want to turn hard to port, you'd probably pull back a little on the port hand and push forward with the stbd hand. A less dramatic turn to port and you'd push forward with your stbd hand while holding steady with the port hand. To do a 180 to port you'd pull back on the port hand and push forward with the stbd hand. Bingo, you just mastered the shifters.

Does your new boat have v-drives or is it an I/O?

Mike - returned to store...no harm done thumb. One of the funniest things to happen over the weekend was when I was attempting to pull the boat back in the chest deep water. It took me a good 20 minutes to do. My kids and wife were eating lunch in the cabin. Every 2 minutes or so my oldest would come up the cockpit and give me thumb. About the 4th time, he yells back to my wife "he's still alive". Made me bust out laughing right there.

Buy a real anchor -- like the one I use in heavy current during tides here in the inlets in Florida.

I have a Monson Supreme -- add at least six -- if not twelve feet of chain ---- fantastic.

I have used many other types over 30 years of boating -- this is the best I have used. It sets very quickly. Anyone else who has one will vouch for it I am sure.

thx
Dale

"He's still alive" --oh that's a wicked sense of humor that one has. HAHAHA. I love it. Sure sounds like a pretty nice weekend overall. Hope the stereo problem isn't a big one.
