Three years, 47K miles and I still have a strong love affair with my Mazda 3. Great car.

But this has me thinking "trade". wink

That is a fine looking automobile. Love the lines on the new mazda 6 too. Also very sporty. Friend of mine had a mid 80's rx-7 back in the day. What a fun car to drive.

I like the 2014 "3" much better. Somehow just can't seem to get over the front grill on the 2010-2012 models' "Hello happy to meet you" smile it has.

It will be a few years yet, but I am seriously considering one of these: http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/displayPage.action?pageParameter=modelsMain&vehicleCode=M6G

New one looks great. We rented a 2008 model in Hawaii a few years back & were really surprised how nice it was. Guess that explains why you see so many of them. Have never been a big fan of the smiley face either.

I like the later model Mazdas. Of all the Japanese cars the only ones that I like are Subarus (we have an older one great winter car) and Mazdas. I had an 82 626 and an 89 323. My brother had an 82 RX-7, great fun car, the rotary engine was like a 2 stroke but smooth, revving up to 7 grand when most inline 4 cylinders were noisy rough and weak. I did a term paper on the rotary engine back in high school (1973) when Mazda had bought the rights to further develop the engine from NSU. The German company had been building the R0-80 with the rotary but sealing problems cause a lot of warrantee claims for them. Mazda improved the engine but also had problems with the first gen rotaries. They went back to 4 cyl piston engines for a few years, perfected the rotary and it returned with the 78 RX-7. I always felt that the Miata should have had a rotary.

That's a very nice looking ride. The shape and front end remind me of a Maserati. The one shown below is larger than the Mazda, but check out the grill area and the overall body shape.

I say go for it.

Interesting bits here and there, such as the headsup display. As usual I have not been keeping up here in my cave. What other models now compete with this?

We rented a '13 3 not long ago. While it was a little small to be one of our primary cars, we really enjoyed driving it.

I bought one of my boys an '05 6 about a year ago, our first experience with Mazda. I've been nothing but impressed. He gets over 29mpg on the highway but you'd never know it from the performance. Reliability has been great so far, now at 90K miles.

Wow did they ever make that a sexy little car!! Holy moly! I have a few coworkers that have Mazdas and they love them!
Been thinking about a Mazda Tribute for LLBS's car.
I say go for it if you can afford it.

Kelly,

Cars in this segment would include the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Kia Forte and some others. None of them exactly blows my hair back the way the 3 does.

Lexus has a car (forget the model) I saw on the road that looks a LOT like my car. First time I saw one, I thought it was a Mazda 3 until I was close enough to tell it was not. Such "premium" cars are never on my short list as I don't see the value added for the high price tag. After seeing that one, I looked it up. They start in the low 30s. My 3, fully equipped was low 20s out the door. You could never convince me that the Lexus is really worth over $10K more.

The big smilly face does not bother me. When I am driving it I don't see it. grin

LBS,

Yep they deffinitely turned on the sexapeal.

No word on pricing yet from Mazda, but I doubt it will jump into the realm of the Lexus. One of the things that makes the 3 their biggest seller is the value of the car.

Not sure I will trade this year. Depends on a few things. I've never traded a car in so soon and it just does not seem prudent. Now if they offer 0% financing like I have now... wink

I think it resembles the newer Infiniti SUVs more than anything, especially the JX.

We drove the new 6 when shopping for the Adm's new car. It was a very nice vehicle, but she just had to have a coupe.

If we let hybrids into the game, the Subaru XV Crosstrek could interest me.

That is a nice looking, which isn't easy to pull off in a car that small. I once had a 323GT that was a lot of fun to drive and fast for its day (late 80s/early 90s). I'm glad to see Mazda has kept the tradition of sporty small cars alive with the 3. It would be high on my list if I were shopping for a car in that class.

I think the VW GTD that is coming next year looks interesting (although not as pretty as the 3) too. It is a GTI with a 2 liter turbo diesel that is supposed to be a great drive and get great mileage.

An interesting side note.

We just helped our son purchase a 2010 Mazda 3. It's pretty much loaded up and was a certified vehicle at a local Mazda dealer. Part of the reason was the good reviews the model/brand was getting from this board.

Thanks.

Cool. Grats to your son.

Hatchback or Sedan?

Sounds like he has the Grand Touring package with the hole in the roof. They tied that hole to the upgraded stereo and that is the only reason my car has the hole (at least it does not leak).

The tires that come on that are sweet. A little more road noise than I would like, but serious traction on wet roads and wonderful handling in corners. A side note is that they cost just over $200 a pop and the cheapest place to get them is a Mazda dealer should he want to go with the same tire again when that time comes.

On that note, I just hit 48K miles and will be putting new tires on very soon. Going to see what is out there that is a good tire, but not as pricey.

Take that puppy for a spin and see if you agree with me that it is a fun car to drive. Very nimble. Also drive it at night around some corners and check out the headlights turning into the corner. Not sure I could go without that feature after getting used to it.

Be sure to give the stereo a crank of the volume as well. wink

I saw a newer 3 yesterday while finishing up a long run (I am training for a marathon). I saw the grille and couldn't help but smile back. I hope I see more 3's on the road to make me smile again.

Admin, consider Hankooks for your Mazda. I put a set of them on my son's 6 and love 'em. Great traction, good looks, cheap (as tires go these days) and QUIET.

Congrats PH, sounds like your son got a really nice car.
