I got these last year and didn't have the time to install them for quite some time.

When I finally tried I had to find out that the poles were not bend far enough to get the bunks even close to the hull. I need them bend to 90deg otherwise they are more than 5" away.
I tried a lot of things but they didn't move. Then I tried muffler shops and some mechanical places but they all couldn't bend the square tubing.
Does someone have an idea how I could get these for pieces bend short of buying a $300 bender? A shop which does such work in the PHX valley would be great or a creative way to get them bend.

If I would have these installed I could go boating now! As the boat never gets centered with the stern on the trailer someone has to go into the water to push it and my crew refuses to do it at water temps below 75F...... Yuck, I wouldn't want to go in either.

Use a vice and some heat, or make a jig and some heat.

Heck, just go boating, don't put the trailer in the water so far and power on. Self aligning. No wet feet. It may take a few attempts at the correct depth.

Put some spacers behind the 2x to bring the boards closer to the hull.

Or when you mount them to the trailer frame, slide the bunk bracket further toward the centerline of the trailer.

Just doesn't work. I never had issues with my previous boat but it had a lot more V and a roller trailer. I am already at the edge. If I dunk it in less there's no way to get it up to the bow stop despite the spray on the bunks. The ramp is really weird and I never encountered the problem before.

Doesn't work and I tried hard. You can only go so far to the bend in the pole. At best it's 4-5" between hull and bunk = useless.

If I would have a good enough vice I would have tried the heat stuff. May have to look at it again.....

Thanks to all who helped me think.....
May ask in another forum which has more local boaters. There must be a shop which can do it with 4+ million living here.

Jürgen,
Before you spend a lot of $$$ at a welding shop or mechanical shop to get them bent, did you consider OH's suggestion to put some spacers behind the 2x4's?

Something as simple as some PVC Couplings could be used for spacers.

GFC, thanks for the reminder! I just started to work on it. Most likely just some longer angles to replace the ones which came with the kit. Home Depot is the next step for it.

I was thinking placing some 2x or use a 4x4 as a spacer.

Take the tubes, fill the loosely with sand and tape the end shut.
Now find a sturdy hole, like the receiver hitch of your truck and shove the short end in it. Grab the long end and bend it.

The sand will keep the tube from collapsing.

these are square tubes and they bend them by pushing the inside wall inwards. If they would be round they would be bend already but the guy couldn't do square pipes.

I even thought about the hitch receiver but they would slide in and ruin the muffler plus you can't bent them manually or only with a LONG lever. I actually thought about driving backwards onto a wall. Well muffler is in the way.

Success!
The frame of the useless gym plus a come along did the trick! The poles are bend as they should.
I never had one but now I do.

yes it is! I love to have a job which requires new tools and are still cheaper than having it done some place.

Is "gym"referring to a children's play structure? Or workout gym?

I am glad you now have it solved, but...

It was a great excuse to buy a larger boat!!!

I just could not resist. wink

nope, no larger boat for me... I never had anything larger than 18ft.

But I just ordered another tool for another boat job! Will report when done with it.
