I just received a card in the mail titled "Important Notice About Your Trailer Boats Subscription".

It goes on to say:

Dear Reader,

We are sorry to inform you Trailer Boats magazine has discontinued publication effective with the June 2011 issue. The good news is that in its place, you will receive Boating magazine for the duration of your Trailer Boats subscription.

Since you are a current subscriber to Boating, your subscription will be extended for the appropriate number of copies owed to you on your Trailer Boats subscription.

We appreciate your loyalty and hope you enjoy all of the exciting issues we have planned for the coming year.

Sincerely,

Bonnier Corporation.

This bites. I have been a subscriber of Trailer Boats Magazine for almost 15 years. Since my local library carried Trailer Boats magazine, I even went back and checked out all of the issues all the way back to the very first one.

I'm not sure why they said that I am a current subscriber to Boating magazine - I'm not.

What makes this really bad is that, over the years due to low offers to resubscribe, my subscription wasn't due to end until sometime in 2015. I'm going to call tomorrow and make the futile request for them to refund money for the outlying years. If Boating magazine ends up being decent, then I'll resubscribe.

I guess I had missed the Ehlert Publishing had sold Trailer Boats and Powerboat magazine to Bonnier back in late May. I'm not a happy camper that the turds at Bonnier bought my favorite boating magazine solely for the intent of shutting Trailer Boats mag down.

Trailer Boats magazine (and the other boating magazines I subscribe to) have been getting thinner and thinner ever since 2008/2009.

Got my notice today too.

I received a few mystery copies of Boating a few months ago. Never knew where they came from, maybe a gift from co workers.

In any case, I'll miss TB magazine. They seemed to cover boats more in my league. Boating seems to be geared more for the big boys/cruisers from what I observe.

That stinks but not a surprise. As Titanium mentioned it had been getting smaller for quite some time. There's was the first boating forum that I visited & eventually lead me here to babc. Sorry to see them go.

The end of TBM for me was when Poole Publications sold the magazine to Ehlert. I was a subscriber and looked forward to the new issues for a few years prior to that exchange, but did not renew when it came up after the deal. The mag nose-dived for me and I did not see value in renewing.

Still, I'm sorry to see a magazine with such a long legacy fold.

I am sorry for their regular forum members. (I quite naturally faded away from there after starting this one.) The regulars over there should know that we have a welcome mat out for them here if they want a new boating forum home. thumb

One of our divisions at work is an industry specific magazine. The decrease advertising revenue is really hurting them. The magazine gets thinner very month and costs keep going up. They have been trying to push the "online" version, but people don't want it. Print magazines are a dying bread.

Yup. For me the progression was BoatTalk - TBM - BABC. Doesn't seem like over a decade ago!

Mike,

Forgot about him. So I take it that is where he's been hanging? I stopped looking in on other boating forums long ago.

Let me re-phrase that. Any who can play nice without being insulting are welcome here. wink

WOW! Well that explains that with the Boating magazine issue I got in the mail.
I've noticed Trailer Boats mag getting smaller and smaller, but still that sucks to see a print mag go out of business.

That is too bad. It used to be one of my favorite magazines. I'll have to admit though that I have not picked up an issue in quite some time.

a few years back there was consolidation of the magazines covering larger boats. it doesn't surprise me that there's consolidation of these magazines as well. too bad, though.

...and now, almost a year later, it looks like they finally shut down the online forums (though it had been pretty dead for a long time).

So, I guess I'll spend my boating forum time here now. I am sure that Walt will be right behind me....if he isn't here already.....

Oh boy. It won't take long for Walt to be banned from this site. Maybe he'd better go hang out with Les's group.

I see that he has already started his fan club!

I actually joined this forum a few years ago, but have spent my time elsewhere, including trailerboats.com. Not posted much in the past couple years. Now that my boats are getting a bit older (2005 Rinker 232 and 2007 Bayliner 175), I have to have a place to vent my maintenance frustrations, and to seek advice.

I am aware. I have had that discussion with him, and I think that I have persuaded him as to their value (NOT).

There are very few bad boats these days....only bad dealers. A good dealer should be able to identify and fix 95% of fit and finish issues prior to delivery. My Rinker AND my Bayliner, both bought new and each with around 200 hours thus far, have been absolutely top-notch ownership experiences for us.
