My grand daughters are here today and we went to a local sledding hill to enjoy several wet sloppy rides before all the snow disappears.
When we returned I checked my E-mail and there was a message from the Marina warning the boaters that have their boats stored in the parking lot nearest the water that they expect the lot to be flooded by next week and the ones that are on stands need to take precautions for when the boats float off them. The Marina crew is moving all the boats stored on trailers. Our lake has been known to rise 55ft above normal and heavy spring flooding is expected this year. The TV weathermen say there is enough snow up stream to fill the lake several times over. Rain is in the forecast for 5 days out of the next 6! Sure glad mine is in a building at level 56ft above norm!

It makes you wonder if Noah is coming to town. That amount of rain will surely make any snow go away. Spring is in the air for me as well. I still have some snow piles but they are shrinking. I even shoveled some of the piles to help them disappear quicker.

Wow, a 55' change in the water level is HUGE. Any chance you can run down to the marina today before the flooding starts to shoot some pictures, then more later after the flooding is underway so we can see the difference?

I could probably go back to 2008 and show you on national news archives as the midwest was fighting severe flooding then. The spillway was topped and the road that comes from the dam was washed out and never repaired. It also happened in the 90's I believe it was 93. Des Moines lost it's water plant to the flooding and we were without water for a long time. They were hauling drinking water in by the truckloads from all around the country. If I get the chance I will try to get some pictures. As I recall when the lake was first filled (Corps of engineer project) That much water could happen every 500 years. I believe it has happened 3 times since they filled the Lake in the 70's.

One of our lakes is up about 50' so far this year and will probably rise another 100 feet if things keep up. It will still be about 50 feet down from full if that happens.

Another lake we boat on was supposed to take like 10 years to fill. Well, it filled in just a few due to heavy rain. So quick they were not able to finish stripping the trees out and now they stick up along shore and some in the middle.

Saw a few boats out over the weekend. I played 18 holes of golf yesterday. Of course today it was 20 degrees cooler with rain, wind and some hail.

Spring is definitely in the air.

Which is why I never listen to 'dooms-dayers'... A few good (bad) storms can undo a drought in short order.
