SoCal boaters: just picked up a '92 SeaRay 270 'Dancer fully loaded w/Raymarine radar, dinghy w/outboard, trailer and lots more. The deals are out there! After a financial fiasco with a Larson last year I licked my wounds and spent 6 months looking. Think I did good this time. Looking forward to reconnecting with the gang for outings to Parsons Landing, 2 Harbors, Mohave, etc. "Playcation" is ready to cruise.

Well Howdy Charles. Congrats on your new boat. Be great to see you again at Catalina. Maybe this summer.

Mark

Alll righty now, let's all welcome back Charles and Mary. Nice to see you back and nice to see another happy Sundancer owner on here. That 270 Dancer is a great boat.

When you have time how about some pics of your new baby?

Thanks guys. Missed all the goings on last year. Pics up soon. Was on the water on Jan 23rd (Mission Bay) and she handled beautifully. Slightly deeper V than my "268". The Bravo II is a 2:1 ratio so I can get away with a 20 or 22" prop, and the low-end torque is amazing. Previous owner spent $20k in repairs and upgrades over the past 4 years. I picked up the entire package for less that $14k. Makes up for the money pit Larson mis-adventure last year. Nice to hear from y'all.

More info needed on the Larson Fiasco. What happened? As a Larson owner I'm curious. Congrats on the Sundancer. Good to have you back.

It was really my fault. Picked up a '94 310 Cabrio as a bank repo from a dealer in Austin TX. Did a cursory visual inspection, ordered a survey and took delivery. Thought I got a great deal. Turned out the used boat market (especially mid-sized cruisers) really soured in late '08 and all of '09. Plus the boat had taken on some water at some point (perhaps gulf coast hurricane), one OD was waterlogged, lots of cosmetic work needed, etc. On top of that I hired a mechanic who strung me along, never completed work promised, did a poor job (not to mention getting arrested and thrown in jail for 2 weeks), didn't pay the boat yard, and basically was in way over his head. I'm suing him in small claims court now. Hired another mechanic. Had both OD's rebuilt, engine work, canvas work, electrical work . . . . Finally, got it to the point where I could sell it. So, $18k invested I sold it for what I originally paid. Place the blame mostly on myself for not thoroughly investigating it before purchase, for getting roped into a "great deal", for not checking out the mechanic's credentials and not anticipating the downturn in the market. Lesson learned! So, not the fault of the Larson, but the owner. cry

Definitely Catalina! Checking the calender - July 31-Aug 1 works best. Doing paddleboard & outrigger races Aug 7, 8, 12, 28 and Sep 11-12. Also, any weekend in July should work.
