Yumm, wonder if he can use the 6-7 million (estimated) carp living in Utah Lake that the Stae of Utah is trying to get rid of....

It looks like the legal and political battle is on.

The state of Michigan has filed a suit with the US Supreme Court to close all the locks controlling access to Lake Michigan, That would halt commercial traffic and prevent pleasure boaters from traveling between Lake Michigan and the Chicago and Illinois Rivers. Approximately half of the boaters who slip in Chicago harbors lay up for the winter in the rivers. Many do not have trailers and would have no easy way to get their boats to their summer slips. There are also many fishermen and recreational boaters who launch in the rivers to get access to Lake Michigan because Chicago harbors are difficult to access and launching from Chicago harbors is very expensive.

No real response yet from "Da Mayor" or boating interests but I'm sure there will be plenty when it all sinks in.

I guess if we enjoy our cheap foreign goods, we have to enjoy the cheap foreign fish as well. Carp, Zebras, Gobys, ect ect....

We can talk about the land roaming ones too. Heck, Emearld Ash Borers and Pine Beetles might make great bait.

Do I smell the startup of a cottage industry for those of us who own trailers? An enterprising person could start a company that hauls boats out of the lake/rivers and delivers them to the place where they're stored for the winter, then deliver them back to the slips in spring.

It would be a lot less expensive for a boater who doesn't own a trailer to pay someone who does own one to haul his boat twice a year.
