Approximately half of the boaters who slip in Chicago harbors lay up for the winter in the rivers. Many do not have trailers and would have no easy way to get their boats to their summer slips. There are also many fishermen and recreational boaters who launch in the rivers to get access to Lake Michigan because Chicago harbors are difficult to access and launching from Chicago harbors is very expensive.
Do I smell the startup of a cottage industry for those of us who own trailers? An enterprising person could start a company that hauls boats out of the lake/rivers and delivers them to the place where they're stored for the winter, then deliver them back to the slips in spring.
It would be a lot less expensive for a boater who doesn't own a trailer to pay someone who does own one to haul his boat twice a year.
