We store our boat in a Hi-n-Dry marina. We call an hour in advance and the boat is out of the building and tied at the dock. At the end of the day, the fenders are left tied to the boat (at the same position...floating docks) for the next docking. The marina is on (at times) a rough river and I'm starting to see some rub marks on the hull.
Sooo I'm thinking about fender covers. From what I gather, the better covers appear to be softer/made out of fleece or polartec. I'm sure you must keep them clean or the dirt, etc. could scratch too. Here's some that I've been looking at. Let me know your thoughts please.
When we had the 34' sailboat, we would frequently raft up overnight with other boats, the fender covers were great for eliminating the squeaks and squeals the rubbing of teh fender between two boats. I would worry about sand and grit getting in the fabric. What kind of rub rail is on the floating dock?

I read some where that this guy went to good-will and bought sweat pants and cut the legs off and made fender covers out of them.he would turn them inside out put the fender in and tie the end shut leaving the rope stick out one end. cheep and washable

The most important part is to keep them clean. They will collect sand and other junk very easy so you have to watch out for it. We used them for one season but they did make small rub marks and made mark on hull graphics. When they get wet it will take little time to dry up so keeping them in ski locker did not work well for us… We ended up not bother to use them in the 2nd half of that season… May be the one we had are the cheap ones

Since dirt/debris is common, you could buy extra pairs and switch them out. Bring the dirty ones home, wash them and replace the next time out however this may be a pain.
Formula uses the Maine Point Fender Covers from the factory with boats painted with the Flagship Imron hull sides.
What I've seen and heard, they are very high in quality and don't even compare to the Taylor Made products.
I've decided on the Maint Point covers. They are a great product as you have mentioned and are custom made to your fender brand/size (they have many patterns).

You took the words right outta my mouth. We've decided that this is what we'll do. It's seems imperative that they remain clean and it'll only be two of them (mid-ship and transom cleats).
I guess I have been around you a little more than I thought as I am beginning to think like you. Speaking of that, I thought of your mower last night while making stripes in my lawn.
Now that I think of it, I have rub marks on my boat and they are black in nature, they just seam to be on my starboard side, wasn't that the side I was tied up to you on?
