Great! My Dad has an older set of Big Bertha's (I think yours probably have on the emblem). I like the nice, soft, easy-to-hit feel!
Good choice.
Next question: What type of balls do you want to hit?
I think I must be paranoid but I like the Titleist Pro V1's (they'll break the bank if you lose them frequently, which I seem to do too often) and Callaway HX Tours (also will break the bank if you find the trees and water).
I like the controlling, somewhat soft, but good distance from these balls.
WetDoggg and others? What about you Silver? What did you play with last time up?
Next question: What type of balls do you want to hit?
Considering I have played all of 10 holes in my life (I had to leave early last week) I want to hit some cheap ones for a while. I'm not going anything expensive until I have a need and can keep them on my own fairway.
Last week I hit some x-outs. They were branded, but I don't remember who. They were a name brand x-out. They were cheap, which is good for now.
You might also look at the cheaper Callaways. They usually can be purchased for <$20 per dozen. and they seem to hit well for the pricepoint.
Be careful! Golf is addicting.
This thread is giving me envy. I do not play much anymore. At home, we're members of a Country Club that's just a 1/2 mile up the street. I used to play all summer long! Not so now.
D-Rod...Pro-V 1 is my first choice as well. But with how expensive they are I have started to look around as well. I used to play Bridgestone some back in college and gave them a shot again. I was shocked how much I liked the Precept Laddie. Two piece ball, very durable. Pretty soft feel around the greens. Ball spins a little less than the Pro V, but for only $10 a dozen compared to $46 for a dozen they are great. Yes...$10 a dozen. I buy them at WalMart and buy 24 for just under $20. Ball will not replace the Pro V 100%. But for the casual player (or a cheap SOB like me) they are great.
SOLD! Next time I play I will try them out! Thanks for the tip WD!
One of the things my best friend and I (he plays competitive today still!) used to do was walk (usually took the dogs for a stroll) the course in the evening and we could find 10-15 balls a night. Probably two or three decent Pro V1's or Pro V1x's. Otherwise, I wouldn't have used Titleist as often.
1st. I have 4-10 + a 50 deg wedge. What should I be adding in teh wedge family?
2nd. Though I am not too worried about which ball to hit, I have heard that one of the top-flite balls is the same as one of the good calaaway balls. Anyone know which one?
SB...you 10 or "wedge" is right about where your 50 degree wedge is. You need to dump the 50 degree out of your bag and add a 56 degree sand wedge. The club will look differently than the other "wedge" in your back because is has a thick bottom sole that makes it easier to hit shots out of the sand.
As far as the ball. I have no clue, sorry.

I have both a 10 and a wedge. The Wedge is 50 and I don't know the loft of the 10 iron.
I like 'em and would add shortening to 14 holes...front 7 and back 7. It would let me, married w/ 3 kids, maybe play a bit more! Plus I pretty much know how my day is going by the 14th anyway.
While I'm at it, let's change baseball to 7 innings too.

That was funny.
I might end up playing this afternoon. We'll see what happens. It wouldn't hurt if we could break 60 degrees today!
SB...there really not a #10 iron. It is #9, then your first wedge. That first wedge will have a loft of 48 degrees. All I am saying is if you have a wedge at 48 degrees and 50 degrees. You need to dump the 50 degree wedge and buy a 56 degree sand wedge.

I don't know why Callaway decided to do that. If ound out the 10 is really a pitching wedge. So I have a pitching wedge and a gap wedge. I also bought a cheaper 56 degree wedge and will fill it out with a 60 degree wedge.
Next up is to take some lessons. I played 9 yesterday and it was ugly. I'll take a few lessons over the coming weeks to see if I can establish some fundamentals.
Callaway has never followed the rules...but they are one of the innovators in the golf club world as well. 4 wedges...for a beginner is too many if you want some expert advice. I would carry your 10/wedge and the 56 degree. Then swap out your two longest irons for utility/rescue woods. Long irons are very hard to hit for beginners.
