Familyman's post got me to thinking about tabs again.

Anyone heard or know anything more about the QL tabs in actual use? (They kind of appeal to me).

EDIT: I did find this old post..... http://www.boatingabc.com/forums/ubbthre...ite_id/1#import

.... but I'm wondering about any more recent experiences.

They do look pretty cool but I have never seen anyone that has them. Think I am going to put a set of smart tabs on the Horizon to get a lower plane speed for water sports. After reading the info they seem like a great deal.

Always was a fan of the Lennco tabs with the led indicator switches

I recently spent some time trying to find some feedback about them, and found several threads on thehulltruth.com They seemed to be pretty well liked, but require a lot of drilling, and there was some feeling that they weren't as effective at lower speeds relative to a traditional set of tabs.

I've read lots about them, done lots of searches, etc.

On paper they have all the features; indicator lights, auto retract, and so on. I like their size, the look, electric vs hydraulic appeals to me, and I tend to believe that Volvo produces good products. The 1.25" holes required seem to be a put-off.

I'd just like to find some real world feedback. I posted on the Chap BB too, nada.

I haven't used these tabs, but know they come standard with the Volvo Penta IPS drives ...

Great technology and not more leaky hyd fluid from the conventional tabs, etc

Philr, how many 1.25" holes are required per tab?? two??

FF - from memory; one each. As I recall, it's for the electrical cable, plus there are several (8 maybe) small holes required for each tab to mount to the hull.

Most of the comments I recall reading centered around all the hole drilling being off-putting for those wanting to install these. Especially the 1.25" as it needs to be drilled 'in', then 'up', due to the low positioning on the transom.

Kevin - I think the 5.7 makes that boat stern-heavy. A couple people in the bow made a big difference.
