You can guess where this is going.

Neighbors behind me have vocal dogs. I have tleked the them about it. No help.

Does anyone have first hand experience with ultra sonic dog bark controllers. They emit a noise dogs find painful in response to a bark.

Has anyone used one and if so how well did it work, what brand did you get.

Aaargh! One of my biggest pet peeves! NPI.

My city has a ordinance against nuisance barking dogs. I call city Animal Control and they come out and address the problem with the owner. Repeated offenses (and I do call again) result in a fine.

Never heard of an ultrasonic gizmo, but I shouldn't think it would have much of a range. Side effects: are you done having children?

Our township has a dog barking ordinance. You get one warning then the fines start. But to my surprise, they do not have a noise ordinance. Neighbors have zero neighborly blood. Friday night they had a party and the music was so loud it could be heard 15 houses down with their windows closed and AC on. Had to call over at midnight for them to finally turn it off...kept the twins up. They could care less. I would love to use the ultrasonic 12 gauge on my neighbors.

PH...I know sound travels far. But would the device need to be close to the dogs? I do not know. Would your local Sheriff or township office be of any help?

Unfortunately any such device would only be temporary. A dog barking constantly is usually due to the stress of being left alone or outside.

If you have already tried a friendly chat with the neighbor, your best bet is to call the police and let them deal with it, especially if an ordinance is being violated.

Last night the neighborhood fireworks started going. Can't believe how loud some of them are. Glad it only last for a few days. Hard to believe how much $$$ some people spend on them.

Neighborly courtesy - does it even exist anymore? I have a neighbor on one side that is the best neighbor one could ask for, considerate, open communication, and is always approachable. The one on the other side is a different story - frickin' trailer trash. Loud music, cr ap all over the yard, roaming cat, and a barking dog.
I've seen the ultrasonic devices on the internet I wondered how well they work. Problem is I have a dog (does NOT bark) and wondered how they would effect her when the neighbors dog activates it.
I also tried animal control and actually had to call the police when their dog bit mine - on our front porch! Bottom line is there is really nothing they can do but warn them.

+1 I have a dog but she doesn't bark . If all attempts to talk to your neighbor have failed you can go down the legal path . If by some chance the dog is barking at 3am in the morning give them a phone call at 3am in the morning . My experience is they soon get the idea how annoying it is after been woken up a few times, and often the problem gets resolved. Having said all this do your best not to take it personally but concentrate on solving the problem
hope this helps

If you try one of those devices please post back on how it worked. I've mentioned them to both my parents and some neighbors down the street who had a problem. Neither tried them. Stupidly I never thought about how it would affect my neighbors own non-barking dog!

It's tough to get in a spat with neighbors but the 3 am phone call idea is interesting. "So these repeated calls at 3 am annoy you eh? Now you know how I feel about your barking dogs! When you start caring about annoying me and my family, I'll start caring about annoying you."

As a dog owner myself, I've never understood how barking dogs don't annoy their owners. My wife once had a conversation with a lady who had gotten a dog, chatted about how it was going and the lady mentioned her dog seemed to bark a lot and actually seemed to be under the impression it was normal! Something like, "Well she is a dog afterall."

The one family I mentioned the ultra-sonic to cannot sell their house partly b/c they have yappers on BOTH sides! The agent actually mentioned it as client feedback. Its a beautiful house but you stand in their driveway and the ones on one side go nuts and if you stand in their backyard the ones on other side goes nuts.

I've used one. It's been several years ago now and I have no idea what the brand was. I only remember it was something I'd never heard of (it was my wife's idea) and struck me as a cheap scam. But, it actually did work, though I wouldn't say 100%. Maybe 75%, with the other 25% being the fact that my neighbor finally got the point when I screwed the thing to his side of the fence.

230 Mike,

You screwed his mutt to his side of the fence? Dang, bet PETA loves ya!

Someone suggested an air horn like for a boat. Canned air taht blasts 120 dB or greater. It either trains the dogs or trains the owners.

About as much as I love them. I cannot tell you how I hated that dam dog. I know it's not the dog's fault - it's always a negligent owner - but when you can't even go outside in your own back yard it's a real problem.

My left side neighbor has a border collie and a lab, both great dogs. They don't quite know the property line but that is ok. Yes they do their stuff in our yard. Less than 5 minutes later it is picked up. In fact when he sees me out mowing, he will do a poop check in my yard to make sure there isn't any deposits. They are good neighbors. The one on the right has a beagle (need I say more). The only time this dog is outside is to do his business and he does it inside a cage on the back patio. The poor pup can't even have a blade of grass touch his but when squating. The owner is a state cop.

I like the 3AM phone call the best.

I had two neighbors at my last house that had barking dogs. The one behind me had two labs that barked continuously, the one next to me had two German Shepherds thar barked at any sound they heard.

I started firing my spud gun when they barked and it shut them up quick. I think the concussion sound was too hard on their ears. I would fire a spud against my fence so the neighbors couldn't say the spuds were going into their yards.

It only took about 2 weeks before the dogs quit barking. The rest of the neighbors in the area didn't like the dogs barking any more than I did and were glad when they finally shut up.
