This weekend we got snow on. Sunday, a few miles north of our harbor it snowed nearly a foot. We got a skiff, but it still snowed...

I spent most of the day working on the houseboat trailer. And it wasn't warm. Around 5 o'clock, I'm bolting down some alignment boards (Per HockeyFamily's suggestion, THANKS!)... To keep warm, I have on a T-shirt, then a long sleeved sweat shirt, then a beat up leather Chicago Bulls coat, and finally an old beat up, lined flannel jacket. I felt like the kid on 'Christmas Story', but I was warm. I checked the temp, it was 38°.

While I'm turning the ratchet, I hear-- a jet ski! Yup--there he is, wearing a swim suit and life jacket, is some guy out on an old stand-up jet ski! His friend was standing next to the truck and trailer watching him. He was dressed like ME, so I assume he wasn't waiting for his turn.

I guess he didn't die of hypothermia, I don't know. I had to go to Home Depot for hardware, they were gone when I got back.

It's supposed to get into the 70's again in a couple of days, I think I would've waited...

A friend of mine surfs Lake Erie up to when it ices over. The best waves come from the winter storms.

Come New Years we'll get to see endless footage of various "polar bear" clubs, where the fun thing to do is jump into ice cold water...Me, I don't see the attraction...

I'd rather be numb from other causes on New Years.

Yep, we have the "Frozen Bun Run" on New Year's Day in these parts.

I used to participate, but now that I am older and (supposedly) wiser, I just go there to watch the crazies and have fun my own way!

Advising caution before jumping to conclusions?

Watch out. Keep that up and someone just might accuse you of starting to become an adult. ouch

Of course, age has very little to do with it. wink

Aboater - where does the frozen bun run actually take place? Somewhere near Bethel Island? Now that I have a boat with an enclosure and a heater, that would be a good excuse to get out in Jan.

At the docks of the Rusty Porthole. Usually starts at 0830.

Let's keep in touch, and maybe we could cruise over there together.

The tule fog comes in quick. I've left Disco Bay under clear skies and 10 minutes later, it's pea-soup!

We could always launch at Sugar Barge and take the 10 minute "cruise" down the slough.

We usually anchor out across from the docks and watch the party.

They have a contest for the best costume, oldest skier, youngest skier, and the most exposed skier! bug_eyes

After the festivities, we take a ride to a waterfront restaurant for lunch. We try and make a day out of it.

If you have one of Hal's books (I know you do), he has a pic of the FBR which shows a guy in the shot wearing a plastic buttocks with FBR written on it. That is my brother. We both earned our "patches" that year!

WAY TOO MUCH FUN!

aboater - thanks. I'm definitely interested pending holiday travel plans and weather conditions. The tule fog can be brutal and unpredictable that time of year, especially that early in the a.m.
