Somehow my wifes nail polish will rub off her toenails/fingernails and leave marks on the seats. I just tried some vinyl cleaner on it that I bought at WM, and it took off some of it, but not all. Any ideas?

I used majic eraser on mine. Just be careful not to rub in one spot to long.

I would recommend GooGone.

Are you looking for suggestions on cleaning the seats or what you should do with your wife?

Same thing happened to me. I used a cotton ball dampened with nail polish remover, then cleaned with vinyl cleaner right after. No ill effects on my seats but be careful on yours just in case they are a different material.

Thanks. I'll try what kdl recommends, the nail polish remover on a cotton ball and then clean it with vinyl cleaner right away. Should do the trick.

There's supposed to be some sort of protective coating on vinyl...I don't know what's in goo gone, goof off is xylene, some nail polish remover is acetone, some is something else---but they're all a variety of the same stuff, and this same stuff attacks plastics. Some quicker than others.

Now, I'm not sure how rubbing alcohol, or maybe better yet, Everclear, would affect the vinyl, but I'll bet it's much safer on the vinyl than thinners. But as long as paint isn't extremely cured (for many days or weeks), alcohol, with a little patience, WILL break down enamel. We use it every day just to clean up paint smudges.

Does your vinly have the PreFixx vinyl protective finish ?? If it does, there is a 3 step removal process that outlines what to use. I'm sorry, not at home to look at my manual.

What I don't get about it is she wasn't painting her nails. The nail polish she's had on for about a week left a mark on the vinyl, and also a bit on the gelcoat. Never happened with the old boat....heck maybe she didn't wear colored nail polish then!

Cobalt actually recommends Isopropanol for stubborn stains, I've used it a couple times with no ill effects.

As with anything else aggressive, make sure you wipe it down with water or a vinyl cleaner / treatment when your done.
