There's supposed to be some sort of protective coating on vinyl...I don't know what's in goo gone, goof off is xylene, some nail polish remover is acetone, some is something else---but they're all a variety of the same stuff, and this same stuff attacks plastics. Some quicker than others.
Now, I'm not sure how rubbing alcohol, or maybe better yet, Everclear, would affect the vinyl, but I'll bet it's much safer on the vinyl than thinners. But as long as paint isn't extremely cured (for many days or weeks), alcohol, with a little patience, WILL break down enamel. We use it every day just to clean up paint smudges.
