Columbus Day is my favorite holiday and it's one of the things that makes this country great. Where else do they get a day off work because an Italian, working for the Spanish, landed on Santo Domingo while he was looking for India?

In celebration of this event, I'm taking my folks and some of their friends and we're recreating one of the lesser known voyages of Columbus........We'll leave historic Glen Cove, on Long Island's North Shore, where the great explorer opened his first combination pizza / fast change oil lube joint. We'll head West until we reach and circle that Manhattan Island thing, where the great man opened the first massage parlor featuring a "happy ending".

I may not be 100% accurate on these historic facts because I never was good at geometry in school.

So, who else is taking a Voyage on Columbus Day?

The weather is predicted to be in the 60's with winds at 10 to 15 and gusts to 25. Doesn't sound like I'll be going anywhere. Maybe the following week.

We're going fishing this weekend. We're taking our boat and fishing an area of the Columbia that's closer to home. Hopefully we'll have pics to show later. thumb

Bruce; have you ever eaten a pizza in Columbus, Ohio?

The wife and I both have Columbus day off. We might do some land yachting.

We got to run up to the boat anyway since it is now in storage, turn off the batteries, and everthing else the marina forgets to do. We'll probably do that tomorrow, and maybe stop by the Mac store on the way home.

Plus, I think I'll celebrate that on 10-13-08, we didn't donate any more out of our 401K into the stock market.

Al, the stock market is open tomorrow or are you hinting that we all should invest everything we own.

investing now if you have extra cash is probably a good idea. if you've got a 401k, though, you're probably sucking wind no mater what funds it's invested in.

Since I have no money, and hence no money in a 401K (or anywhere else for that matter), I haven't lost a cent in this crash! Am I lucky or what!?

My portfolio consists of the amount of gasoline I have at any one time. I made a pretty good profit this summer on the February gas I bought! Fortunately I used it all up before prices dropped! Am I lucky, or WHAT!!?

(but I'm still not going on a Columbus day cruise frown )
