Last weekend, a 7 year old child died after apparently falling off a dock at Skiatook lake. The family was sitting around on the dock (a practice I hate on that lake)and then went to their camp site. Mother notice the kid was barefoot and made him go get his shoes. Just when no one was looking, he disappeared.

The sheriff was there immediately and they started searching for the boy. By the time the divers found him in 15 foot of water, it had been well over an hour. The sheriff is now pushing a fund raising drive to buy side looking radar like they use to find dead bodies. He is convinced that will allow his people to find drowning victims in time that some can be saved, especially young children.

Very sad story, but what about the parents investing in a lifejacket for a 7 yr old ??

If the technology is there and works to save lives, I would be all for the radar system...

That's horrible...

What's the problem with folks sitting on dock? Is it a general use courtesy dock or private?

what a tragedy. kids wearing life jackets on docks is standard practice in my area. nothing high tech needed. just common sense (and some vigilance) on the part of the parents.

I suppose that might work if someone is standing right there with the radar as they fall in.

Much easier to try and prevent the drowning, IMO.

Always have kids in life vests around water! So sad.
